The delight is in the finding out. Inveterate traveler, incorrigible animal rescuer, English teacher by trade. Mostly lurking/liking here. All photos by me unless otherwise stated.

07.12.2025 14:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The photo is of sun beams from behind trees with leaves changing colors. The sun is about halfway down on the right side, and is directly behind a tree trunk, making the beams and shadows on that side quite dramatic. On the left are some red and orange Japanese maples. The trees are mostly green with some yellow leaves, but is mostly washed out by the sunlight on that side.
Early morning walk on a #StunDay.
(I may have found things more stunning this morning because of the cold medicine.)

The picture is looking out of a large window. Inside, the light is warm yellow. On the left is a simple cat tree with a wooden platform at the bottom and a clear plastic bowl on top. Inside the bowl, an orange cat lies with his head hanging over the edge. Attached to the window with suction cups is a cat shelf, with another orange cat lying on it. Outside the window it is bright but cold and somewhat faded, but the sky is clear and blue. Below, there is the roof of a large building; beyond that is a large city block of low houses; in the far distance are much taller buildings.
Morning #window, with bonus #cats.

The entire photo is the side of a multistory building, completely glass in a regular framework, in blueish tints. Since this is a hotel, the contents of rooms tends to repeat; where there are reflections, they are of more windows in the building opposite (where I am). About halfway down, on the left side, the small figure of a man in red hangs outside, cleaning the windows.
A whole week of #windows in a high-rise hotel.

My little online shops are my own photos and doodles and designs from my spare time; they support about 40 animals at the moment, and have saved some hundreds by now. Here are some links to my own designs and photos printed on things: https://www.zazzle.com/store/straysetc/products Mostly simple designs, mostly because I could never find things I liked related to rescue - they were always too cutesy for my taste. https://www.zazzle.com/store/travelsetc/products The most random of the randomness. erintaylor-connaughton.pixels.com Photos I'm actually proud of. and my PayPal purely for donations: etc@email.com For any graphics posted to 3rd party sites, I'm also happy to send files directly, and/or can customize colors for graphics on request.
So torn between being not-keen-on-commercial and needing customers. I support a lot of rescue animals from my little online shops. I HATE self-promotion, but rely on them for food and boarding and vet care. Begging a bit? Maybe ๐

A tiny shaggy yellow dog sits in a Christmas-themed red-and-white dog bed. She has bright button eyes and perfect scruffy-dog ears, and is wearing a knitted shirt collar with blue tie. Eleventh-Hour Rescues is a small group that takes dogs that are headed for the infamous kill pounds of Shanghai, but also helps individual rescuers like me. Many of my rescues have found homes on Shanghai and abroad through their connections, and I am delighted that several of my dogs (now in happy homes) made it into in their 2026 fundraising calendar. You can find them here: IG eleventhhourrescues
Essence of adorable.
Hard to believe something this cute is real. This is Cola, representing Shanghai Eleventh-Hour Rescues at a Christmas Fair on Saturday.

26.11.2025 14:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Three small dogs lie in various poses on a red couch with the back cushions removed. There are gold-colored blankets draped over the bottom cushions. On the left is a mostly black dog with tan highlights, sprawling with her back end sitting on the middle cushion. On the cushion itself is a smaller, mostly tan dog with a black back, lying with her head draped over the edge of the cushion. On the right is the smallest dog, white, tightly curled into a ball.
Angels, almost always. Eh, usually. Often enough?

Its legs and feet are bright red.
I don't usually have photos for #BirdOfTheDay, but I like this one #OnTheEdge. No idea what it is (some sort of duck?), from a park in Johannesburg, South Africa.

An orange cat crouches on a small wooden platform hanging from a scratch post, against a white wall. He is at maximum yawn, and is facing almost directly into the lens at face level, so you can see into his mouth and nearly down his throat. This cat does everything to avoid having his picture taken.
Yawn.
Or, orange yawn if we're being strict vowelists ๐

Once share bikes end up in piles like this, they are headed for bicycle graveyards. It's too bad, since most of these bikes would last ages if people gave even the littlest of a damn.

To clarify: what's pictured above is headed north-ish. The overpass I was on is headed north-westish, towards Suzhou. The overpass below me is headed south-westish. The ground level ends in local bits flying off in all directions. A many multi-story concrete mess.

Pic taken from an overpass; there is another level below this, and one on the ground below that. This is heading towards Suzhou - a huge concrete mess that everyone curses up one side and down the other. Very #unloved.

Two pics are shown. On the left is a small light-colored dog just after rescue - terribly skinny and with almost no fur (what is there sticks up in all directions), looking lost and utterly defeated. She is in a wire cage, wrapped in a dark blue blanket with stars. The caption above reads: "same dog" On the right is the same dog about a year later. She is sitting nicely at some event and looks like a healthy poodle or poodle mix, with full, well-groomed fur, wearing a bright orange harness. She looks happy. At the bottom is the phrase "Life is wonderful" (although it is partially cut off). The caption above reads: "different owner" Zazu was found in a half-ruined, abandoned house in a less-built part of Shanghai. We think she was used for breeding, and was dumped when she was no longer useful to them.
I could never post this pic of Zazu #unloved without her happy after pic too. Just after rescue, and after #love.

I would love a sad dog story that was just unrequited love ๐ I actually kind of love this video clip, but will delete the post if it's too much of a downer.
17.11.2025 11:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The relationship between people and animals here is actually what is problematic - that, and if people don't manage their dogs correctly, the city will take them away and kill them. He gets along well with the ayi's husband, so he's okay.
If you mean the unrequited love... he's neutered anyway.
Sorry... Because he won't find a home here? Part of that is because I won't adopt him out to to a home that won't manage him correctly, which is most of them.

A low-angle photo of three dogs running on a rooftop, with a brick building on the right (shelter rooms are in there). The photo is looking down at light-colored rocks eroding into a flatter landscape with winter vegetation. Eroded rocks in the mid- to further-distance look like the classic fairy chimneys of Cappadocia: roundish-squarish bases of pale rock, with sharply pointed "roofs" in darker stone, usually noticeably separated, like towers. This was taken very early in the morning, so the shadows are stark and the sky in the distance fades into the sunrise brightness. This photo was taken from a hot air balloon, and we had barely cleared this rim at this moment. (We had maybe 8 people in our balloon basket - so we could get both really close to the ground, like here, and really, really high.)
