"Governor Shapiro is not meeting the moment. The moment requires that we call a subgroup of people within federal law enforcement — who are killing innocent people, physically assaulting innocent people, threatening and punishing the use of video — what they are… Just say it. Don't be a wimp.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

ICE Pretends It’s a Military Force. Its Tactics Would Get Real Soldiers Killed
WIRED asked an active military officer to break down immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis and elsewhere.
An active-duty US military officer does an assessment of ICE's operations in Minneapolis and sees rank incompetence at every turn. It's untrained losers being led and commanded by other untrained losers, all in order to furnish entertainment for the MAGA base.

The Noise Demonstrations Keeping ICE Agents Awake at Their Hotels
Participants in the noise demonstrations targeting hotels that house federal agents in the Twin Cities recount their experiences and explain how this tactic might be employed elsewhere.
"When one fed attempted to blow off the crowd by visibly watching basketball highlights on his phone, a protester shouted “You’re watching ads, you broke bitch! Kill yourself!” The federal agent returned to his room shortly thereafter."

screenshot of text from Adam Serwer in The Atlantic: "The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive - because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force."

Protests happen, but most of what is happening in Minneapolis isn’t protesting.
More accurate terms:
- observers
- witnesses
- volunteers
- neighbors
- residents
- people

It's the PTO moms and spreadsheet dads and other random-ass Minnesotans concerned for their neighbors. There is no one central organizing org, just a ton of people who give a shit. It's both beautiful that it's happening and laughable that anyone thinks there's some broader apparatus at work.

What's happening in Minnesota is one reason the Reconstruction Amendments banned insurrectionists from holding office. Unfortunately, the originalists on the Supreme Court interpreted the plain language of the amendment to mean its opposite.

Superintendent Evans said that state investigators had a signed warrant to access the shooting scene, but they were denied access by federal officials. Even though state investigators "were not ave to do really any work at the scene once we had access,"he said, they had been talking to witnesses and seeking videos.
Multiple officials of the US federal government are spending their day rather blatantly obstructing Minnesota law enforcement and covering up a murder.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

Thinking a lot right now about this crisis of trust. It’s a new world for Americans to not be able to trust what their government tells them.
Not to say that the government has never lied or misled the public before. Obviously it has.
But this is a new, Soviet-style level of lies and fabrication
