That's Kid Rock? I thought he was just some dorky guy they put in it to make old Secretary Pestilence look good by comparison.

General Francis L. Donovan is okay with being added to the list of war criminals, I guess.

After constantly calling regular members of the public "domestic terrorists" for not being supportive of lawless government paramilitaries, the administration has pretty much drained the word "terrorist" of all meaning.

Do we have any actual facts about who our military is killing on these boats?

"Membranous croup" makes me shudder every time I see it in an old newspaper.

My favorite US census question was on the 1900 and 1910 censuses. It asked women how many children they'd had โ€”the number *born*, and the number *living*.

The two numbers almost never match. My 2x great grandmother had 11 born, 8 living on both censuses. She lost 3 boys to diphtheria as toddlers.

Wow, that's really disgusting.

Looks like all of that guy's content on the corpse-of-Twitter is responding to bizarre stories from OAN. He's in Congress?

That's a baited trap, isn't it?

That is a company that needs to be put out of business as soon as possible.

For-profit prisons should be outlawed entirely. They're immoral and barbaric.

At least they won't be able to force AI on us if we're using TRS80s!

I wonder if the one we had when I was a kid is still in my parents' garage...

How about a phone that doesn't have a ton of new "features" with every OS update? One that's simple and stable?

Watching my 87 yo mom get frustrated with all the changes and additions she doesn't want every time there's an update, and with the whole country getting older...

So, like, AI is going to force us back to using typewriters?

Maybe we should go back to the telegraph. If people had to pay by the character to send messages again, it would be the end of spam.

That reminds me... I've been meaning to write some letters and renew my library card...

I figure that's why mothers got a reputation for crying at their daughters' weddings, because there was a not-insignificant chance the daughter would be dead within a year.

I'll bet! For one thing, the evolutionary period from when humans began to not have enough room in their jaws for wisdom teeth until antibiotics were invented would have been pretty long.

One of the Warner Bros died from tooth abscesses in 1927.

I was just checking to make sure this one got mentioned!

It still blows my mind that Calvin Coolidge Jr died at age 16 because he played tennis without any socks on.

Okay, so the source here is a couple DHS officials who are NOT Tricia McLaughlin, right?

Because if the source is McLaughlin herself, it can't be true. She has consistently proven herself to be incapable of telling the truth.

Pretty sure ID is already required for voting in most places. Just not always a photo ID that states your citizenship status on it. But even without ID, it would be difficult to vote fraudulently, and almost impossible to affect the outcome of the election.

That's ice?? Cool!

I didn't see the alt-text at first and spent quite a while puzzling over what those objects might be. The only conclusion I was able to reach was "Not seals".

Which means the kids most likely to get SSPE are the ones who get the measles when they're too young to be vaccinated.

This is what I think anti-vaxxers need to understand โ€” their own children may well be fine, but they are condemning other children to a slow and horrible death.

Weโ€™re back! And a lot has happened since weโ€™ve been away. This weekโ€™s main story concerns unrest in Minnesota, murders committed by ICE and CBP agents, and the massive entity overseeing it all: the Department of Homeland Security. Plus, some stuff about Business Shrek โ€“ sorry, โ€œTom Homan.โ€

How awful! I didn't know it could cause permanent damage (but of course it could!). My great grandmother lost three younger brothers to it as toddlers. I can't even bear to imagine how their mother felt, seeing them go through that and not being able to help them.

The FT contest that challenged readers to redraw Europeโ€™s borders The extraordinary story of when, two months into the bloody Great War, the newspaper launched an unusual competition

This is such a fascinating piece about a deeply surreal bit of history: the competition the FT ran *in 1914* inviting readers to speculate about what the map of Europe would look like after the First World War was over:

And, of course, most of the US's greatest contributions to culture and art have NOT arisen from the shared WASPiness he refers to.

Which civilization is he referring to?

The US is heir to a rather large number of noble civilizations, though we haven't always done a good job of appreciating all of their contributions.

It's funny that they now have to wear masks "to protect themselves", and yet the top of cause of death, by far, for active ICE agents has been COVID.
