I think that’s what was cool about the warp zones / warp pipes in the nes Mario games, you didn’t have to beat every level in one sitting, and it felt cool to learn about all the secrets

i love this aspect of the pc version! here's capture of the MIDI being routed to actual NES hardware using a MIDINES cart. the midi tracks don't fit the NES hardware limitations so I eventually started modding the MIDI to better work with NES (not heard here) but alas i never finished it.

ill see if i can find the files. it would be fun to revisit. the hard part is that to fit all of the musical details from some of those pieces, from 20+ tracks in the original to 3 melodic chip voices and a noise channel, amounts to a complete re orchestration.
