Unlike Lincoln, I love enduring the constant mental assault that is being alive in 2025. Don't know what his problem is.

The Anti-Porn Crusade That Censored Steam and Itch.io Started 30 Years Ago Keywords and tags have never been a useful metric for distilling nuance. Pushing for regulations based on them is repeating a 30-year history of porn panic online.

Everything that grinds our gears about PC gaming in 2025 Introducing a week of gripes about our pastime, and using computers in general.

Welcome to Gripes Week on @pcgamer.com! We'll be venting our bugbears with our beautiful hobby all week, one gripe at a time. www.pcgamer.com/games/gripes...

Still have to find time for Hell Clock now that it's out, but thought it looked really promising when I wrote about it before launch in May. Especially the bit where the protagonist barks that many have been "enslaved and exploited by the laws of men."

it's so good and I need more people to check it out. game basically takes the power fantasy of Diablo and makes it about slaying racist monsters across time. They're even adding mapping later this year

Hopefully going to write something about it later this week, but Hell Clock is an incredible action RPG (Diablo/PoE/Hades) about killing cops. Tight combat, fun builds, and a bold art style. There's a whole new endgame system coming this week too. store.steampowered.com/app/1782460/...

Put another way: I see the run as almost a *different game* than the Nightlord fights. Losing to the final boss can be frustrating, but it's like playing chess for 90% of the run and then losing at solitaire.

I empathize with people not liking how it invalidates your gear, but I don't see the run as the only measure of how successful you'll be on the Nightlord. I've been max level with an inventory full of legendary weapons and have died to a Nightlord in the first 30 seconds. It just doesn't bother me.

I'm not always a fan of references like this but to me it feels demonstrably different in the context of Nightreignβ€”another example of FromSoft being willing to bend its own rules.

Sorry haters, Elden Ring Nightreign's much maligned new Everdark boss is its best yet I will defend you, Everdark Augur.

Nightreign's new Everdark boss may be a gimmick fight, but the gimmick completely reshapes the run and is such a fun surprise. I am so glad that @dilfpatrol.bsky.social agree on this one. www.pcgamer.com/games/action...

Are you a graphics programmer/technical artist/someone with experience in the ways game engines (particularly Unreal) can influence visuals and aesthetics? I'd love to speak with you for a piece I'm working on! If you're interested, my Bluesky DMs are open.

And Roger might be the saddest game I've ever played in my life. Beautiful art, music, and mechanics, but NOT a game to start your day off with.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers review An action RPG dragged down by references to much better games.

The thing that gets me about games that turn out this way is that it's probably a situation I run into with students a lot -- they (understandably!) want to make something LIKE the things they find meaningful, but that's not a recipe for a successful design.

What I saw of Wuchang via @tylercolp.bsky.social had none of the art direction or character of an actual Souls game and his review goes into it a lot more - "a soulslike without a soul"
