These are spectacularly ignorant comments by Lam regarding people seeking asylum. For one thing, they massively ignore that most refugees remain in their region of origin. Most refugees aren't hopping on a flight to the UK, and most wouldn't even if they could.

Ironically, he's doing this just as the closest thing we have to a codification of British values - the European Convention on Human Rights - is under attack from the Tories and Farage, and even undermined by Starmer’s own Government.
