We have had a spectacular stretch of cross country skiing conditions around HRM for the last 3 weeks. The lack of rain or mild weather + fresh snow each week have helped to maintain the groomed trails.

Southwest N.S. is a desert. We’ve only had 14mm of rain in July at our cottage near New Germany. Our vegetable garden is not happy! We can collect 1,000L of water from our rain barrels to water the garden, but not when it doesn’t rain.

The New Germany area has only had 13mm total and the last half of June was also dry. All the heavy showers in July seem to be moving along the Atlantic and Fundy coasts.

I have an idea to reduce the amount of smoke billowing from Canada into the U.S.: impose a 35% tariff on all smoke entering the U.S. from Canada. This will encourage forest fires to move to the U.S.
