Older people in leisure suits saying "disco never died" was a punchline for years. It was younger people who were not around who romanticized it and made it cool again. That's the pattern.

26.09.2025 20:16 โ ๐ 29 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Can't Hardly Wait is a movie I have always reflected very fondly on, so it a delight to revisit it with @nikostratis.com this week.
The most stacked cast, the biggest feelings, and endless possibilities for characters that stand at the precipice of the rest of their lives.
Also that soundtrack!
The negative reaction to a lot of tech right now would line up with the nostalgia cycle for the late 2000s in next 5 years or so. And with country's rootsier shift it seems like something to watch.
I suppose it will depend on how attitudes towards total sincerity lands more than anything.
The way people talk about "Stomp Clap Hey" music makes me wonder if it will come back around like similarly once hated yet era-defining genres like disco, hair metal, or "recession pop."

21.09.2025 02:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If DIRTY GIRL had came out earlier, it would have been a highlight of the studio indie movies of the 2000s. Optimistically, this means it could and should be getting discovered by more people now because what a movie it is. Trashy, funny, sincere, mean, and aggressively gay.
I loved it so much!
"But 2 and 3 are so much fun!"
I don't find it fun to take a "canonically" trans character who dictates the morality of the original film, as both the killer and final girl, and stripping her what autonomy she does have so she can become a puppet on the side of the status quo in Reagan's America.
Respectfully, I never needed any additional Sleepaway Camps.

It sure has been a normal day for gut reactions to normal news in the SLEEPAWAY CAMP world.
