kinda the issue is its super under-researched but this is a good start thetransfemininereview.com/2024/10/27/t...

like they are either publicly lying OR are stating how obtuse and stupid they and the business is. All while admitting to approving this without any thought or question to the quality. and how it does not represent the narrative in any quality ~ a heavily visually represented narrative already.

the response is also just a flat out refusal despite how overwhelmingly obvious it is ~ this doesnt mention anything else such as the lack of heraldry or the nonsense armour ect. This is only taking ownership for allowing awful art unrepresentative of the story anyway, all besides the ai stuff.

Then again somehow the dnd movie did it when it comes to s&s so who knows ~

The thing about james bond is uh anyone can make a spy thriller and nobody does... idk why, but slapping an IP with a fuckload of historic baggage on it isnt going to fix that

You know a country by its values. By what a country values. And it turns out thatwhat a country values can change overtime. Sometimes, though, there's a sort of cognitive delay between the country you think you are in, and the country you've actually become. For example, you can keep selling yourself, to foreigners, as the country of William Shakespeare and Jane Austen, and luring busloads of tourists to Stratford-upon-Avon and Bath, and put a statue of George Orwell in front of the BBC, and imagine yourself a cultured and literate nation, which the rest of the world admires for its devotion to the written word - but if you then chronically underfund your cultural institutions, and treat your cultural workers with contempt, many people will suspect you of being full of it. And as the decades pass - and fewer and fewer Shakespeares and Austens and Orwells emerge from your little island - even more people will begin to suspect that in truth you do not value culture at all, and are in fact running a giant heritage museum in which the only cultural workers you respect are the dead ones.

I can honestly say that some of my favorite games have been ones in which one PC is the "main character", IE the "plot" is primarily concerned with their goal, and everyone else is the supporting cast. It makes a much more coherent narrative than five different lost prince stories.

british english is like you can use " or ' for speech, do as you wish unless you have an authoritive professor or publisher on your ass :) but they still demand i capitalise my i's how does that make sense its a personal pronoun i'm not god

seething angry because random guy online who writes for games i enjoy is WRONG about his theory of funtime playing >:(

also when you look into how trans women and trans fem people are statistically more likely to suffer from DID ~ you know because of obvious reasons ~ and his other comments about trans people, you really get what his entire fucking issue is huh

jesus fucking christ what an asshole. "euphoria of coming out" is not only nonsense, because coming out is fucking terrifying but DID has nothing to do with coming out???
also completely misses how any disorder is experienced differently from popular conception, esp DID.

this is beating a dead horse but the core point from a design perspective is interesting - you cant just deisgnrules around what makes sense in the narrative (this happens during combats irl) but what those mechanics actually do at the table. Mythic Bastionlands combat is the opposite of this.

11.11.2025 13:00 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

cant get over how much attacks of opportunity suck in dnd 5e like the core concept makes sense; If you move away from a foe they get a chace to hit you BUT it just doesnt care about what that incentivises the play to be - stopping any tactics outside of rolling to hit everytime until their dead

my politics teacher used to say BBC was a good source of new because "both sides hate it" (and he was a rather liberal man, not shy about his views) ~ The entire point of the right attacking an already right wing pushing bbc is to normalise their transphobia and farage-platforming as "neutral"

11.11.2025 12:05 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

idk, im referring to how both at the game level and the play culture level, the game presents itself as "wholesome found family adventure with progressive politics" while mechanicly being an omnicide simulator with a legacy of unaddressed racism (just look at everything about radiant citadel)

11.11.2025 06:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

its just another step of widespread anti-intellectualism (alongside ostracising the failing of gender performance) ~ we've had years of protein-wanking gym bros flaunt themselve online, and its only the men reading that get labeled as "performative"

10.11.2025 18:35 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

isn't speech here the way we interact with the medium of ttrpgs (and thus mechanics) the same way "moving a mini" is an interaction in a skirmish game, writing is a form of interaction in solo journaling games, and watching is in movies.

10.11.2025 16:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The eternal struggle with rules discourse is trying to get a majority of people to understand rules are the medium. Rules. Are. The. Medium.

We are an artform where we're still discussing if a movie needs to be a series of sequential images.

I actually think a big problem that has been endemic to RPG design for decades is simply that designers don't consider their game mechanics ENOUGH, like the story of Greg Stolze asking the oWoD guys "why do you have variable TNs AND variable success thresholds" and getting blank stares in return

one thing i do love with del toro is that he understands that gothic can and should still be colourful! it stems from the romantics after all! i am myself always torn between loving the gothics and yet being a hater of fully black clothing and he establishes a blueprint to life i find nourishing

del toro's frankenstein is as subtle as a bag of bricks and as meaningful; its gorgeous but i feel like im watching fan art. thoroughly enjoyed it but at the same time ive come out of it feeling very hollow, and ultimately nihilistic about the endeavour of adaptations.

I AM WAITING for my girlfriend to get home so i can watch frankenstein ahhh reading the short stories of mariana enriquez has put me really in the mood for gothic fiction

This is my grandfather, Brigadier G. B. Vaughan-Hughes MC in 1919, aged 22/23, β€˜somewhere in France,’ on Joey, his army mount. He bought Joey off the army and let him live a long and happy life in Wales. β€˜Tommy,’ as grandpa was called, had entered the war early in 1915 as an 18-year-old 2nd Lt …1/

starting "all quiet on the western front" today, which i found in a castle's second-hand bookshop. I was disappointed in the movie adaptation and even more pissed off with the reddit comment I saw saying it was "too nihilistic and one-sided about the war" so im glad to be reading it finally.

everything that has happened to video games will happen to ttrpgs - hell it already has, look at all the american defence contractors connected to wotc and critical role.

whats that quote about fascism being the insertion of aesthetics into politics.
nobody virtue signals as much as the right.

not sound like a liberal, because the contradiction IS the point, but by god its crazy that those who wank over the poppy the most are the same tory/reform fuckers who call for mandated military service for the youth. Respect the symbol, but never the message is the entire bit of right wingers.

kinda referring to the play culture of dnd (reinforced by its rules) that has blossomed around it - a contrast between "found family everything is safe and cazy but also faux-progressive" that then goes into OP charracters genociding people, in a constant joke fest.
