Of course, this post was originally about immigration.

And on that, too, I think you have little to worry about.

For the purposes of enforcing rule of law alone, Democrats are going to run on a platform of purging DHS. It's completely unavoidable at this point.

At the least, there is no way in hell the party, either on the national or state level, is going to officially endorse "bathroom bans", or legal bans on minor transition, or statewide bans on trans girl participation in sports, the more so after recent electoral events.

So there's that.

In a way, the crescendoing bitching of some centrists is indicative of this. You've seen multiple articles by both Yglesias and Chait recently being like "Democrats have learned nothing about their woke mistakes and are merely giving lip service to it", etc. etc. etc.

I consider that a good sign.

I think the Democratic party writ large is starting to take notes from it, its centrist pundits and pro-accomodation strategists notwithstanding.

To cite one example, Tim Walz, 2024 VP nominee, has come down solidly on the pro-trans-rights side; the rest of the party has noticed.

Respect to the serviceman who got knocked down during the flag rollout and froze motionless for the entire National Anthem. 🫑

And more specifically, what that indicates for the political solution to idiots spouting slogans on the fringe.

I tend to gravitate toward more media-oriented strategies than simply trying (and failing) to get people on the fringes to shut up and stop saying dumb things. As does the GOP. But YMMV.

I, too, am angry beyond words at progressives who cost us this race and others. No disputing that.

But we do need to ask ourselves why louder, even more ostensibly β€œsuicidal” messages from the far right seem to cost them nothingβ€”and what that says about the asymmetrical media environment we’re in.

16.11.2025 19:51 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

In any large coalition, there will always be suicidal activist squads pounding dumb slogans that we are bound to reject.

If we reject them, and we STILL hear from the publicβ€”and said commenterβ€”that they heard progressives writ large β€œembraced” said dumb slogan, the problem is not the party per se.

16.11.2025 19:44 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No argument here.

My response to the original commenter is that progressives did not β€œfully embrace police defunding”. Three congresswomen did, as did some progressive activist groups, and most Dems rejected that; not the same thing.

I harp on that because it bears on the political solution.

Only sorta.

She started posting insane bullshit online because she was bored and unsatisfied with her marriage life. She had no idea it would lead to fame and Congress but rolled with it.

For every MTG, there are thousands of others like her who simply self-destruct. We don’t hear about them, tho.

To which I reply: What would you have done differently than what Biden, Harris, Dem senators, and the Dem party writ large did, to push back on said activists and fringe figures?

Do you honestly believe they did not push back, and address said liability?

(You can probably guess my answer)

He’s obliquely referring to Obamacareβ€”but the Supreme Court, indeed, very much β€œinterfered” with Obamacare.

Most of the time that’s just people showing off their knowledge of terminology and arguing over definitions, under the (wrong) impression that correct word usage is a sign of effectiveness.

George Orwell was like that. He was wrong, though.

I think she just doesn’t find the crazy stuff fun or attention-grabbing anymore. That’s probably the main thing.

And yes, power and money are factors here. But then, if all she cared about were those things, she would have stayed in her cushy former life in Marietta, Georgia.

I love how some hard-left folks love to cite China’s *official* incarceration numbers as some kind of legit argument in support of how relatively β€œoppressiveβ€œ the U.S. is

Exactly three Democratic congressional candidates called for β€œdefunding the police” in 2020: AOC, Cori Bush, and Rashida Tlaib.

No senators did. No governors did. Most candidates openly rejected it. Joe Biden said β€œfund the police”, multiple times.

That’s your answer. Take it or leave it.

She engaged in it because it got her power and attention, and because she enjoyed it.

She no longer enjoys it, and the power and attention are no longer guaranteed.

Hence, this.

It’s better than spreading Jewish laser conspiracy theories, but it’s still not ideal.

So depressing that any political issue in this country is either about immigration or is blamed on immigration. We need someone with a voice brave enough to call this out for what it is; hysteria, deflection of blame and good old fashioned racism. Shame on any party or person involved.

Many of these churches’ congregations are far more into politics and culture war than the God stuff.

They do this because it’s the easiest way to get followers and clicks and popularity. Asses in pews/chairs = do crazy politics.

It’s like how social media operates.

Well, this is the foundation of the MAGA movement. Without political pastors’ help, there is never a President Trump.

It’s even better for me:

I recently pointed out the corruption, the open lawbreaking, the mafia-ization of the Justice, State, and Homeland Security Depts., and this was the response I got:

β€œYou just hate democracy because you lost.”

Never have I restrained myself that much from hitting a man.
