Final annual work meeting in Edinburgh last week, so took weekend to visit some loved places, including favourite yarn shop, Ginger Twist Studio 🩵🧶. Been working my way through her delicious bases & picked up this Masham Mayhem 4-ply; so woolly & soft 🐑! Will be some kind of colourwork yoke sweater…

Colourwork sweaters are amazing, too! I’m just really getting in to them now, and have at least three on the list!!

I definitely go through cycles - sometimes it’s all I knit, sometimes I need a break!

They are fiddly! This is only my second pair (although both had >/= 3 colours) and I feel like I’m juggling & wrestling 😵‍💫

I know what you mean! Saw great idea from @scoutj.bsky.social - she puts sweater in small bag w/ just working arm out. You still have to turn it, but it’s smaller & contained. Also, when it has some length, you can knit, turn it, knit the other ndl & turn it back, instead of going in same direction

Xmas gift for youngest #knitting 🧶

That was the game-changer for me! It sounds harder than it is (you’re still knitting in the same direction) but it causes the floats to travel a longer distance on the outside of the work. Recommend!

Yes! And knit the colourwork inside out! And any other tricks I can think of!

You should know that I have only successfully knit one (1) pair of colourwork socks and it took me FOUR attempts 🤪

(But they are really cute 🍄)

The same seven skeins of wool, now converted to black and white to check the amount of contrast between colours.

Been slowly collecting Exmoor Sock for eventual colourwork socks; it’s time! Original plan was green & orange w/light grey. Then green & light pink, then green & dark pink…but what about light & dark pink together?!? 😵‍💫 Not a ton of contrast here, but gorgeous colours & good enough for socks…🧶🧦

I do a similar thing with the socks, but on a smaller scale. Matching Xmas socks for me & daughter, with challenge to get both pair out of one ball of WYS. 2023 and 2025’s pairs…
