Even in the tail end of his career, Duvall could show up in a film with a small part and damn near run away with the whole thing.

Bingo. I know these films cost a lot to make. And the first two made over $2 billion (which need to referenced with how much of an outlier that type of performance actually is), so that’s where the “logic” comes from.

I understand why a lot of people/trades are saying Fire and Ash underperformed. I do. Counterpoint: it’s still the 18th highest grossing film OF ALL TIME. Might take Barbie for 17th. As theater-going continues to decline, I’d say that’s a hell of a run for an “underperforming” sequel.
