still thinking about the Montana knife maker who said you don't have to worry about tariffs if you buy american. and then three months later, he realized he imports swedish steel and german equipment. and even MiUSA equipment costs $100k more now because of tariffs

Will offshore wind ever come to the Great Lakes? | CBC News
Wind turbines in the Great Lakes have the potential to produce huge amounts of clean energy in one of the most popular regions in North America. But offshore wind is banned in Ontario and facing headw...
Did you know Ontario maintains a ban on offshore wind energy, despite the fact that Lake Ontario alone has enough capacity to generate 10 GW over and above what our current peak demand is? We could literally be Great Lakesmaxing ourselves to a completely clean grid.

Neon Liberalism #37: Samantha and guest Talia Lavin discuss Donald Trump's connections with Jeffrey Epstein, the broader problem of child sexual abuse among Republicans, and how this connects with their vision of a family and a nation dominated by authoritarian, unaccountable fathers.

Season 2 was like a more mediocre season 1 in the conflict component and then Eleven just Super Saiyans the victory. Season 3 they clearly realized just having no apparent ceiling on her power would not work plot wise and actually did something about it

And I donβt think the uncertainty should stop us from having standards, even high ones, for public officials, youβve just got to be careful given the quality of the information available

Oh I think most of the data on this shows weβre less likely to judge ourselves accurately on this than others. Distance and lack of transparency obviously does make it more difficult though. But thatβs a matter of epistemology, whereas expectations are about outcomes.

Itβs how I try to live my life and itβs been pretty pleasant tbh. Having a high standard is like: did I actually do what I could? Did I put in the thought and the effort and the time?
Having low expectations with that is like: even if I did, there are more things beyond my control than in it

I think youβre being far too uncharitable here. My family has a saying, βthe secret to happiness is low expectations.β That isnβt about whether you put in the effort or believe itβs impossible for things to be better. It means that when you succeed or get lucky, youβre positively surprised.

Separately, we need a long-term vision focused on broadening liberal principles and reconstructing the liberal state.
This is a complex vision that is going to be harder to sell to a broad electorate but is essential to having a real policy future that is not purely reactive to MAGA insanity.

Totally agree about the need for an articulated vision, but I keep coming back to the conclusion that there need to be (at least) two distinct layers to this vision.
The big-tent vision that focuses on punishing corruption and neutering the billionaires. This is your near-term electoral strategy.
