On the other, if he's told some donors this (& the FT will have sourced this properly) you can be sure that he'd've told others the polar opposite if he thought that's what they wanted to hear.
I wouldn't be surprised if Labour were to run on rejoining the single market/customs union at the next election. One of the primary challenges they will face (if present conditions continue) is to unite the liberal left behind them and against Reform/the Tories. Brexit 2 is a good way to do that.

Think this is exactly right - political journalism that is completely abstracted from policy, which was not the norm before 2017, has become the default. Impossible to have a serious attempt to either shrink what the state does or widen the tax base (have to do at least one) on that basis.

70 per cent of the money from lifting the two-child cap is going to children whose parents are working.
A third of Universal Credit claimants are in work. People claim benefits to reduce their hours to raise children or care for parents.

When I was young, the Independent was the best designed newspaper on the stands. This is what it looks like now: a par of text sandwiched between two ads, an auto-play video and a pointless and intrusive swipe function. It's as if it hates the work of its own writers.
