Okay. Time to start again.

I wish the bad blood could end. I wish I’d never lit the match that ignites the fuel.

But I’m not going to live inside that guilt. I can’t change the past. God knows I’ve done stupid shit before that, and I’ll probably be guilty of more stupid shit before I die.

Why was this four-year-old drama being dug up again? For entertainment, maybe. Or maybe as a warning to new members. “WE are good, THEY are evil. Make sure not to associate with THOSE people, you might catch the evil too.”

I hadn’t thought about that shit for years until my wife learned this week that a bunch of folks had blocked her for what seemed like no reason, and learned that the story of that awful time was being rehashed again in the Discord we used to frequent.

I was drunk and angry. I was so depressed that I ended up hospitalized for a month afterward. These are not excuses, I’m just explaining my mental state at the time. It was wrong and stupid, and I apologized. And I’ll apologize again: I am sincerely sorry for what I said.

I think it really shook him, and I hope it stays with him for a long time. He wanted a VN from a guy’s viewpoint paying for a bunch of shallow female archetypes to objectify, and instead he got actual complex characters who broke his misogyny bubble and made him uncomfortable. I love it.

To me, it’s obvious the reviewer was “sick” because of the trans content more than anything else. Frankly, his *review* made me sick, and demonstrates toxic masculine ideas of women being either “promiscuous and loose” or “pristine and wholesome”, and god *forbid* the two ever meet.

Related: Bluesky’s character limit is waaaaay too limiting. I’ve been spoiled by Mastodon’s much wordier allowances.

Thinking this morning about patterns of thought I fall into. Hyperbole. Bizarre/rapid-fire humor. Attention-seeking. Hypomania/depression. And, yes, various kinks. They all have one connecting thread: rapid, efficient generation of endorphins.

I’m glad to have found you here. “Opportunity” was an incredible story with brilliant writing and fantastic art; I knew the moment it made me laugh out loud that it was something special!

Oh, and if you don’t know (I didn’t at first), a “kinetic novel” means a visual novel that’s basically just a linear story with art, no real choices other than tiny ones that don’t really affect the storyline. So is it a “game”? It’s a matter of opinion. I’d call it fiction within a certain medium.

I wanted to remark on this because it is refreshing to see actual sex-positive media in a space so often dominated by crude stereotypes, fetishization, and chauvinism. I’m sure it isn’t perfect — I can only evaluate it from a cis male viewpoint, after all — but it *felt* right, you know?

I finished the indie adult kinetic novel “Opportunity” today. And before you accuse me of being “horny on main”, I have to say the writing, art, and diverse queer and racial representation was *phenomenal*. It is surprisingly wholesome and touching in parts.

Wait, wtf, Bluesky content warnings are only allowed if you have attached media? Are you kidding me right now?

Good lord, Mastodon is *miles* ahead in terms of user experience.

The reason for this is simple: some people post basically non-stop, and others post infrequently. Without categorization, the former drowns out the latter. Seeing at a glance whose writing you need to catch up on is extremely useful. But it doesn’t lend itself well to algorithmic tampering. #ux

I only learned after their shutdown that Cohost had the option of separately seeing how many unread posts were waiting from each of the people you were following, a la LiveJournal. If I had known that existed, I’d have been there *all the time*. That is IMO the best #ux for a social network.

Oh wait, no, I forgot, Bluesky decided they’d go ahead with their own completely separate incompatible federating protocol. So much for that idea. (Admittedly I hear ActivityPub leaves a lot to be desired, but did we really have to reinvent the wheel *again*?)

Heck, the only reason I popped online now is because I wanted to follow someone who was formerly on Cohost before I forgot to do so. Although, now that I think of it, if my Mastodon host allows federating with bsky maybe I can just follow from there…

I would legit check Bluesky as much as I check Mastodon if they’d just remember where I last stopped reading, and the reason is psychological: when the feed is at the top, my brain thinks “welp, I’m done”. I’m not gonna scroll down and read everything in reverse chronological order.

For the love of god, #Bluesky, implement a “last-read post” bookmark for people’s feeds. Please. Twitter remembers where you last stopped reading, Mastodon does, but you refresh to the top of the feed every time, so I always miss *tons* of posts. This is some serious #uxfail here.

It’s okay, AI isn’t self-aware and thus can’t have low self-esteem, so I’m good 😆
