”We Are All That We Have Lost” gets its title from a misheard lyric of “Imperfection” by Evanescence. The actual line is “we are alive, we are alive”, which might be equally pertinent. (But for publishing/copyright reasons I only use lyrics if I misheard them.)

I love it when characters point out aggressively consistent details in Contrivance Headquarters because most of it probably makes no continuous sense. I haven’t made a functional map of Contrivance Headquarters since 8th grade. I’m just vibing over here.

Sometimes I struggle with the balance of “recovery isn’t linear” and not boring/frustrating my readers while my characters take two steps forward and one step back/run around in circles. All of my sequels can be summarized as, “Haven’t these people learned *anything*?”

I feel like there are tidbits in Crossover AU that capture the sheer creepiness of Lavender’s slow evolution into Malka better than my attempted sequel ever did. And I think that’s because it’s less “in your face” and more foreboding. #Dystopia

Been trying to go to more local events of interest lately—on Tuesday I went to Shut Up and Write, and today I’m going to a Titanic lecture, both at libraries!

Just finished reading The Smartest Kids in the World by Amanda Ripley. It’s on one of my favorite topics and by an author I like, so I’m not sure how I missed out on it for 12 years! Fascinating insights. Reminded me of a late friend who hosted exchange students and traveled the world visiting them.
