Sorry I was being unclear. Yes it is part of the driving test but that was a one off, and could be years ago. What we need is a requirement for everyone who drives to have good eyesight, and at all ages.
I would like it to be tested as part of periodic repeat driving tests.

That is the standard but it is not tested.

There should be a compulsory sight test for everyone who wants a driving license, irrespective of their age.

It is always going to be difficult to get public transport to fill the gap when lots of people have cars. As a result we end up with a situation where those who have no access to a private car have little access to any transport, because the other people who could make it viable are happy in cars.

And it is nothing to do with the engine type, it is the subsidising an essentially selfish form of transport.

Because for all their benefits cars also bring disbenefits and most people are blind to them. They may the best option for many people, for some or all of their journeys. The problem is that cars are routinely used by more people than that, and for a greater proportion of their journeys.

Perhaps we could find some other employments to protect.

It is not about the specific type of car but about cars in general. In this instance about people being actively subsided to be given a precedence over other people.
We should be spending money to encourage people not to be driving at all.

Every time I stand on a pavement, waiting for one of these cars to pass before I can cross, I will try to remember to thank our government for subsidising the driver's life.
