I feel like I shouldn’t have to point this out, but none of the people who were killed in the synagogue attack in Manchester were Bibi Netanyahu or part of his regime. None of them were remotely responsible for the genocide in Gaza. They were just Jewish.

Also, of course, some people are nonbinary, and some people are cis and GNC. In either case, it might not feel so great to have people push the idea that you’re a binary trans person on you.

I’ve also talked to trans women who were forced deeper into the closet because they didn’t feel comfortable coming out around people who made those kinds of assumptions about them, or who felt that egg jokes trivialised their journey to realising they were trans and acting on that realisation.

There are a few valid arguments against making egg jokes, or at least against taking them too far. For example, I’ve talked to trans men who’ve been forced to out themselves as trans because people around them wouldn’t stop saying they were obviously closeted trans women, which was deeply dysphoric.

It really bothers me how egg joke discourse has largely accepted this straw man where people who make egg jokes are nobly trying to wake people up to the fact that they’re trans, and anyone objecting just doesn’t want trans people to figure out their identities. That’s not what either side is doing.
