In a world where magic exists (even one where it's dwindling), it makes sense that people surrounded by magic wouldn't see it as a separate phenomenon from the natural world.

I like when the Fellowship gets the cloaks from Lothlórien, Pippin asks if they're magic, and the elves are like "I guess????"

Hobbits seem largely very skeptical of magic, even though they canonically have limited magical powers. Wizards recognise magic and their command over it, perhaps as a separate part of the world from natural phenomena. Elves can do magic, but they don't distinguish between magic & non magic things.

I think the cultural position magic has in various societies in Lord of the Rings is really interesting.

I think it makes sense to oppose some applications of generative AI, but I also think some applications, such as protein folding and weather prediction, are pretty much objectively good. I wouldn't be willing to take this pledge because "generative AI" is such a general term.
