On November 11, we take time to honor Veterans. We recognize the diversity of veterans and the struggles that many of them have. May we work for a better world that avoids conflict at all cost and helps all struggling veterans.

As you may be aware, funding for some government agencies, including portions of the Department of Veterans Affairs, expired at midnight this morning. President Trump opposes a lapse in appropriations, and on September 19, the House of Representatives passed, with the Trump Administration’s support, a clean continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21. Unfortunately, Democrats are blocking this Continuing Resolution in the U.S. Senate due to unrelated policy demands. During the current lapse in funding, the vast majority of VA benefits and services will continue uninterrupted, but the government shutdown is not without consequences to VA. Here is what you need to know:

The VA is openly blaming the government shutdown on the Democrats. These systems need to stay out of partisan politics to best serve the fine people who have served this country.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has filed a brief with the Supreme Court that suggests that trans rights will interfere with religious freedom. My right to exist does not infringe on your right to worship as you please.

My heart is with my friends and family in the Latter-day Saint community. Many people admired President Nelson and his contributions to the faith and may his passing be a reminder for the good things he stood for. I am also heartbroken at the horrific attack in Michigan. Be safe, love your neighbor.

Individual Democrats are more likely to be trans friendly in general, but in a state like Utah are afraid to be out about their politics. If we advocate for more trans friendly community leaders, who are usually Democrat, we can improve trans people’s lives at the local level.

Celebrated Constitution Day with the Constitution Party of Box Elder County. This is part of my initiative to build bridges in Northern Utah between those who would normally be opposed. We walked away as friends and are planning to work together on the things we agree on.

There appear to be some other great people starting their own runs and I will post about them when they are off the ground a little.

It’s crazy to think it has been 24 years. Terrorism and violence should have no place in our world and may we work everyday to influence it towards peace.

Conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in Monday's decision that the lower court's restraining order went too far in restricting how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents could carry out stops or questioning of suspected unlawful migrants. "To be clear, apparent ethnicity alone cannot furnish reasonable suspicion," he wrote. "However, it can be a 'relevant factor' when considered along with other salient factors."

It’s stupid that this is even a way I have to think, but I am scared for when my spouse travels without me. Could she be targeted? Would they arrest her and take away the kids? If the government can target people simply by skin color and languages spoke, we are screwed as a society.

I am ending my campaign for Congress in Utah’s 1st Congressional District today. I am thankful for the support that I have been given, but given my commitments to the Box Elder Democratic Party and the LGBTQ+ community in Northern Utah, I need to step back to focus on these efforts. Thank you.

I would definitely not suggest to anyone to go to the DHS website and register for the job fair event in Provo taking away positions from other people and just not show up. That would be bad, we don’t do bad things.

This is a big reason why I am running for public office now. Be the change you want to be in the world, or some nonsense like that.

That makes sense. No matter who the candidate is for any elected position, I will lobby, fight, protest until they have a positive position on trans rights, even if I have to run against them to make that fact known.

Sorry if my comment came off in a way that suggested that you personally don’t support trans rights. Most Democrats and many others support trans rights and show love to our community. This is the reason it is so easy for a candidate to support trans rights and still get the votes they need.

Newsom was unlikely to get my primary vote long before his podcast debacle. I don't think he's actually going to make it as the nominee because at the end of the day, he's the sort of triangulator most of the base is sick of.

That said, I will grant him the opportunity to do better on trans rights.

The bar for winning over trans people is very low. Basically saying we won’t take away your rights, or your children’s rights, to healthcare and the right to legally exist as your authentic self. Almost no resources need to be spent on winning our vote, but we still get blamed for the loss.

As problematic as the LDS church may be for many, it is a shame that several feel that they have to choose one or the other when it comes to living authentically. I am one of those who felt they had to choose the other, but I do find value in my good experiences from my time in the faith.

I know of a couple up here in Northern Utah. I have heard of some controversy involving one of the ones in salt lake and the local indivisible chapter, but I don’t know very many details.

They don’t have any safety net or the money to afford council outside of a JAG attorney. They will not have a case to say their orders are invalid if they are picking up trash. They should just pick up the trash and not ruin their lives. Let us fight for them instead.

This is really easy to say, but they are taken from their jobs and families to go on these orders. They are usually on the lower end of the working class in their civilian careers (like fast food and stuff) and don’t have the privilege to push back without totally destroying their lives.

I may not be religious, but the story of Jesus leaving the 99 sheep to save the one is kind of powerful. That story suggests that taking care of 100% of the flock is an absolute. I will gladly give up the 99% if the other 1% is treating people like equal human beings.

Please join us!! It will be a great event and will give much needed exposure for the Democratic Party in our rural areas.

By the time they got around to figuring out my lack of competence, the 29 days would be up (if they deploy for more than 29 days they have to give the troops more benefits and because they are cheap jerks, they probably don’t want to do that.)
