There has been, it seems to me, a notable shift in how both media and government figures perceive their role relative to public opinion. It used to the case that public figures shaped opinion, whereas now they feel obligated to shift their opinions based on the public opinion.

The bus I was on this morning nearly hit a cyclist as it was pulling up to a stop. Cyclist came to the door and told off the driver, at which point a random passenger started yelling at the cyclist saying that he was in the wrong and being an asshole. Transportation in the city is doing great...
