But if you're not trying to be or beat Reform why are they celebrating your immigration policy? Where's the solidarity, justice, and equity at upending policy for current migrants where the seeming goal is to appease them? You mention rules and fairness but only deal punishment?

I don’t know for 100% certain what these #Labour changes will mean for me yet but at minimum I no longer have certainty that I can settle here. It will likely mean additional costs to extend, if I can, will put home ownership and travel further out of reach.

All will see agreements they came into this country under torn up in their faces in a proposal both the conservatives and maga wannabe reform have praised.

All the while Shabana talked about fairness, about privilege, about integration that will be all but impossible under this plan.

Yesterday, #Labour Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced this governments harsh new approach to immigration and settlement.

Some will be policy’d out entirely, some will see their chance at settlement moved from a total of 5 to 30 years. Spouses and dependents will be in limbo.

I don’t know Shabana Mahmood or her family, but I’d be disappointed in myself as a parent and in my kid if they used who I am or their upbringing to diminish others and upend the lives of thousands.

I’m sitting here anxiously awaiting to hear what this #Labour government has decided about my future, in an attempt to engage in xenophobia, or to futile-y appease racists to “prevent” a reform. As an immigrant, I’ve no say in the matter. I can only sit here thinking how I’ve ruined us to be here.
