Miraculously, all 14 Democratic candidates in #IL09 are packed onto a stage at Green Mill in Uptown for a forum hosted by the 46th Ward Dems and moderated by Axios reporter Justin Kaufmann

That's why I said I didn't know which the new trainsets were built to :)

Switching from loco hauled to DMU on the Rock Island line for example would yield immediate significant performance gains.

All rail advocates who want this would prefer wires. But if we can’t get wires we’d prefer this to heavy trains hauled by freight locos with no accel

What’s the amount of electricity generated by the panels in 1 minute versus the amount used per minute by the truck?

(You can have regenerative braking without panels)

I don't know what Alon is on about, DMUs are fairly common in Europe.

It's not too late.

Chicago residents, for example, can request a Vote By Mail ballot through March 12th.

Ok, well I haven't seen that (yet) so my statement is still true!

I think the generally accepted definition of an MU is that has multiple self-propelled carriages that carry passengers (typically all, sometimes half), and not whether it is easily broken apart.

No, that consist would have just one unit.

("Unit" being a railroad term for a power car.)

I mean I guess technically this is a multiple unit by that definition.

Is it the kind of thing that can be coupled/uncoupled easily in the yard (like the Highliners) or is it a more involved shop operation?

Are the Caltrain KISSes fixed trainsets or can they swap out cars willy nilly? I assumed the former but I guess I don't know.

FWIW that's not what I think of when I hear EMU. Doesn't need to individual cars or married pairs.

ICE 3 and ICNG are clearly EMUs from my perspective, as are the FLIRTs and KISSes.

The burbs are trying to reinstate parking minimums near Metra stations and busy Pace routes.

Don’t let them.

Submit an β€œopponent” witness slip below.

NS Intercity Nieuwe Generatie - Wikipedia

Dutch ICNG reaches 200km/h on the HSL-Zuid line, which they consider Intercity but we would probably consider regional (33 minutes).

There were electric trains on the lower level of the bridge.

They were lettered to avoid confusion with the numbered lines in San Francisco.

They had their own ramp from the bridge to the Transbay Terminal that was still used by lettered Oakland buses until 2010.

Even when I'm driving, I find that because I stop *behind the stop line* and not in the crosswalk, other drivers assume I arrived later than them and get mad when I go when it's my turn.

Four-way stops are the WORST way to establish right of way at minor intersections, and no one else in the world uses them. At all! They just don't exist on most continents!

"BIKE AIDS CAMPAIGN" reads differently in a post-1980s world.

Made my way up to where the Potomac Interceptor sewage pipe broke late last month just north of Cabin John, Md. The C&O Canal between locks 12 and 10 is being used to divert sewage around the broken portion; it’s essentially an open-air sewer at this point.

The current ICE surge is both so effective and so infuriating because it takes hold of this large swatch of tolerated but technically illegal behavior and just slams the hammer down.

Anyway, marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

Fill out an OPPOSITION witness slip for this bill, which would REQUIRE developers to build excessive parking for housing and commercial developments near train stations.

(Without this law, develops can build as much or little parking as they think is appropriate)
