but that isn’t what the police do. the police removed the most vulnerable from their communities in order to prevent mass mobilization against the status quo. our prisons aren’t filled with the powerful who prey on the weak, they are filled with the poor, who needed to be isolated from each other.

you can not design a better system of racism and think it will actually create a more just world. the police are a foundational block in our system of racism. they need to be abolished before we can ever move forward.

what do you think protecting the vulnerable means? if ‘enforcing’ the law actually protected the vulnerable, being poor wouldn’t be the most likely predictor of ending up in prison.

everything you listed tells of what happened AFTER the harm has already been done. law enforcement did nothing to actually prevent it.

agreed, but there will never exist a disconnection between ‘the jail’ from the reason for its creation: the control of marginalized and surplus populations. jails will never serve as a site of economic or racial justice as they were specifically created to prevent those things.

law enforcement has no legitimate interest. it exists to serve as the violent arm of government. as our government was founded on a white supremacist ideal, law enforcement exists to maintain, aggressively, this unjust and immoral structure.
