Senators on the brink of retirement who lived full, wealthy lives and never feared the loss of their own healthcare voting for their constituents to die from their inability to afford the same is treasonous

terrorizing our communities, and corruptly self-enriching at the expense of the rest of us.

We hope to celebrate the Democratic Party for fighting back. But if they surrender, the next step is primaries and new leadership. We get the party we demand, and we intend to demand one that fights.

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

It should be that simple.

At Thursday's meeting, they told their caucus colleagues that they now had ten votes to re-open the government in exchange for no real Republican concessions. At that, much of the rest of the caucus went ballistic, and some of the supposed ten said that, in fact, they were not willing to vote for any such deal. Only after that did Schumer go public with his proposal to reopen the government in exchange for a one-year extension of the ACA subsidies, along with a bipartisan commission to figure out a long-term solution.

If I were @schumer.senate.gov, I would not agree to help Republicans fund this regime on the "promise" of an ACA vote at a later date. It didn't work the last time when they promised to fund DC. It won't work this time either. The House won't touch it.

Schumer caves like the weakling he is.

An ordinary resolution by a majority of Senate Democrats can replace the Senate Minority Leader (link is for majority leader but it’s the same process).

If 24 Senators (counting independents to get to 47) tell Schumer he’s out if he lets the caucus cave, I doubt they cave today.

I continue to wonder when Americans will decide enough is enough. As Frederick Douglass reminds us:
