I keep (...kept?) old demos and proof of concept files on Itch.io in a different area to the finished game labelled as 'legacy files' for preservation reasons, but I might rethink that!

They represent the game a few years from release and don't have the music, sound design and voice acting.

As a first time solo developer making a fairly short game, the juggling act of maintaining an up to date demo and making the actual game got too much for me, so I ended up deciding to just focus on the release. I think it's something I'll definitely do differently next time around!

The game released in March and any demo version you might have found is probably Very Very Ancient and not representative of the finished game.

Whenever I fancy making something with my hands, I've been using up bookbinding scraps to make tiny books to hang on my Christmas tree (...when I put it up at what I deem to be Appropriately Near Christmas)

It's surprising it took me a while to get around to this one...

Thank you to everyone who came to chat with me about The Beekeeper's Picnic at #AdventureX! My voice has gone and I'm clean out of Newt Facts, but I've got to meet some of my creative heroes, put faces to names and hear from people who have played and enjoyed this thing that I put so much love into.

As a bun native who lives in bap territory, I was delighted to be in London and order a "sausage roll" and receive a sausage in bread, not puff pastry. Hadn't even crossed my mind that was a possible outcome of the phrase "sausage roll'.

I think it's a "jerks on LinkedIn" thing, honestly. I mostly see it with regards to the corporate world.

Problem: eating at convention stand is unprofessional

Solution: Make game about a picnic, food is now appropriate theming

(This is a joke, for goodness sake let people at conventions eat)

I think what I'll do is wear it but if anyone makes a comment I'll just yell "I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I AM WEARING THIS DEERSTALKER ON PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS!!!" and then they'll know I'm a normal and well adjusted member of society.

Tough decisions as a game developer.

It's awkward when my character is supposed to be a fount of newt knowledge, but I'm not.

Our local rough-skinned newts have been in a toxic arms race with the garter snakes and are deadly poisonous. But the snakes are immune and just get drunk on it.

The article is from this March so it was more current news at the time, but I was a bit surprised that it was considered a notable thing to mention. I'd seen coverage of the badge in the gaming press a few months before, and seen lots of games using it.

If the tone had remained farcical throughout it might have worked better, but it kept trying to do pathos? It's tough to have Watson kneeling, ernestly singing about his grief when all we've seen Holmes do is berate him, then suddenly whip back around into a laugh-out-loud moment.

There is a song where Watson is applying to be the biographer for another detective because Holmes is being so mean which had lines that went something like
"I'll be the Boswell to your Sammy J, do you need to see my resume?" which is a one-percenter, and in that audience I was the 1%.

Mixed feelings! With my fan hat off, it was a fun enough show with lots of laughs and set pieces. Definitely has a grown up panto vibe.

With my fan hat on, I'm not sure I've ever come across any other Holmesania which is quite so relentlessly cruel to Watson, which is really saying something.
