i am pro-"partisan statehood measures." make DC a state. allow PR a binding resolution to determine if want statehood. offer the same to our other island holdings β€”Β american samoa, guam, the northern mariana islands and the US virgin islands. if they agree, incorporate them as a 1 or 2 units.

this dc situation looks pretty horrible. i wish i had more to say except that autocracy is always mundane and petty and vicious and encourages you to look away and be safe. and you can live quite normally under it until you're a direct target

The Democrats Were Designed For An America That No Longer Exists If the Democratic Party, and the country, want to survive, they need to wake up and choose what they want the next world to look like. Then they need to start fighting for it.

If Democrats are serious about fighting Trump and reversing his war on governance, democracy and history, they need to adapt. The political structures of the past are destined to fail in this moment, they need to create new ones, writes our

In this corner: fascists consolidating all power over the nation’s laws, guns, money, and speech rights.

And in this corner: basically LinkedIn, a bunch of dorks who wanted to be important people when they grew up.

Another good (and sobering) bit from Adam Aleksic's ALGOSPEAK.

"Your decisions are now curated for you under the guise of personalization, while in reality they're engineered to make platforms as much money as possible."

Lots of talk in the book about companies manipulating tags to make money.

They each actually believe in things, and they want to use political power to make those beliefs a reality. Fundamentally, most Democrats did not get into politics to make their beliefs a reality, they got into politics to individually be important people. There’s an enormous difference.

this sounds insane on its face? voters do not closely follow legislation and policy but they are very aware of the image and vibes of the elected officials. if voters say β€œwe think they are nerds who won’t stand up for themselves” that’s almost certainly what they mean

I majored in Global Studies because it was the one that let you just take whatever classes you wanted across the entire university.

Best academic decision I made, learning how to think in lots of different ways has been very professionally useful, and more importantly, very personally enriching.

You know what works better than tax incentives to pay $25 an hour?

Putting CEOs who don’t pay $25 an hour in prison. Or stripping their assets. Or banning them from their current industry.

Just sayin’.

If you understand how that form of antisemitism functioned as a particular way of shoring up nationalism at a moment of anxiety due to greater migration and mobility, you can see how that form of antisemitism might actually be usefully deployed by Israeli nationalists.

There is a ton of bad faith around how anti-semitism intersections with Israel/Palestine, on all sides, but I am convinced the worst and most damaging has been allowing right-wing anti-semites to use their support of Israel as an alibi

The right’s whole thing is telling people You Too Are A Hero by obeying our ideology, indulging the thrill of hating people, and not having to think about hard things.

If you demand that the left offer the same feelings the right promises, you’re living in the same illusion as your enemies!

The retribution part comes only IF you win some power. And winning power only comes by creating that groundswell of support (unless you’re on the right and have billionaires pulling strings for you)

If you’re unfamiliar with the humility and tenacity required to organize, it’s a lot

I feel like I have to say this bc many people on Bluesky have no experience with political or community organizing irl:

a lot of it is eating shit day after day to achieve a goal and do some good in the world! It is decidedly NOT an exercise in feeling superior and exacting revenge on your enemies!

We've become so accustomed to lawbreaking that this probably won't ripple much, but it is important not to forget that firing the IRS Commissioner for refusing to break the law--if that's in fact what happened here--would and should prompt immediate articles of impeachment in any other presidency.

100%. It was music made for that period when tech platforms had killed the radio, but hadn’t quite killed television yet, so at least some musicians could make money selling their songs to ad agencies.
