I’m convinced the main reason Miyazaki films have a reputation for being “cozy” in the West is because he actually writes and animates long moments of quiet into his stories, whereas Western animated films are usually a nonstop parade of loud music, sounds, noises and neon colors.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

There’s so much AI slop in lofi/chill genre music on youtube that some channels now put “no AI” in their titles. Which is sad they have to do that but also I’m kind of hopeful that we’ve now come full circle that it’s beneficial to advertise not using AI bc people are actively looking to avoid it.

Could not agree more with these takes. Also, I've thought for a while our field could use more culture around developing leaders. Its an unusual topic for us weirdo artists, but so many professional experiences I've had, good and bad, flowed directly from leadership quality.
