Yet one more example of an industry impacted by climate change:
England's hottest summer on record produced unusually sweet apples, which bumped up the alcohol content of scrumpy (hard cider). Now, it's classified as “wine”...taxed at a higher rate...and too expensive for producers to sell to pubs.

My friend told me that her 14 year old son started doing laundry on Sundays for some of his elderly neighbors. He doesn't charge for the labor. And now he is the most popular person in the building and has non stop pies, cookies, and cake. The 14 year old should be our model of modern masculinity.

If only Pete Hegseth's military shaving crusade was just stupid
Hegseth knows damn well who he's pushing out: Black troops.
Pete Hegseth’s new grooming policy practically guarantees an unfathomable wave of terminations, with Black service members likely to face the brunt. Does the secretary know who mainly benefits from the waivers?
There’s almost no way he doesn’t.

Exactly.
Plus, if Dem leaders are serious about “expanding the tent,” there shouldn’t be any hesitation about endorsing Mamdani. None.
For some strange reason, the urging to expand the tent always seems to be to do so in a rightward direction.

“Debate Me” culture is not organic, endemic, or apolitical. This mode of high jacking discourse is and has been central to a 30-year conservative training program that has produced untold numbers of people to do this for every reason but “civil discourse”

The IMLS's Freedom Trucks Project Is Propaganda in Support of Historical Erasure: Book Censorship News, September 12, 2025
This week, the IMLS announced their Freedom Trucks initiative. It is blatant propaganda.
In a *second* update to today's story about the IMLS funneling money into a "Freedom Trucks" project–& how it, as well as the announcement for it–are tremendous regime propaganda, it was unearthed that the $14 million came from robbing IMLS's National Leadership Grants.

Massachusetts grandfather denied COVID vaccine coverage despite Gov. Healey's order
A 70-year-old grandfather said he was denied coverage for a COVID shot by his insurance company.
Availability of vaccines is one thing, getting them covered by insurance is another. Frustratingly, people are being denied coverage even in states like MA which now requires insurers to cover COVID vaccines.

BERNIE SANDERS: Yeah. You know why? Because you're cutting $150b for rural hospitals, you're putting $50b back. That's not an infusion. That's a loss of $100b.

Judge Blocks Pillar of Trump’s Mass Deportation Campaign
In response to a suit by @maketheroadny.bsky.social a federal judge has blocked Trump’s expanded use of “expedited removal.”
The courthouse abductions w/o due process that we’ve been protesting are illegal—and must stop.
We’ll be back next week to make sure they do.

Holy shit. Check this out:
Lander finished the ranked-choice process with 151,463 votes, and he ranked second on 308,683 Mamdani ballots.
That adds up to a minimum of 460,146 votes cast for Lander in the primary.
Andrew Cuomo's final round tally was 443,229, nearly seventeen thousand less.

Attacks on Muslims flood mainstream after Mamdani win
Openly racist rhetoric has become normalized at the highest levels of American politics.
We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent.
Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.

Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander at a bagel-themed demonstration in the streets of New York City, with Zohran in a suit and tie holding a sign that says “NYers DESERVE THE WORKS” and Brad Lander holding a sign in the shape of a jar of capers with a label that includes Andrew Cuomo’s face and says “DONE WITH CUOMO’S CAPERS.” Seems like there’s a schmear sign that says “spread the wealth” and a red onions sign that says “REAL PUBLIC SAFETY + FREEDOM OF SPEECH”
I’m not ready for this content to turn sad.
