A Quick Look At The Dolmenwood Maps Book
YouTube video by Jim Rossignol A Quick Look At The Dolmenwood Maps Book

As a part of my ongoing series "I Am A Hopeless Fantasy Maps Dork", I did a vid on what a GM is going to be able to get out of the Dolmenwood maps book. I own a whole bunch of fantasy atlases, and I have never seen one quite like this. (I know that's the monster book, it was the better thumbnail!)

In teaching research as part of writing, I often saw students default to minimal work to meet the checkbox requirements because they felt like it was impossible for them to ever take in enough information to find THE answer to their question. I see something similar in full-grown scholars today who

โ€ข Professors should never put a student's words or work into an AI

โ€ข Professors should also be transparent about their Al usage with grading, curriculum building, and any other way they might use it in their teaching.

Weโ€™ve done four Peabody #BikeBus rides with the band so far, and each one relies on an incredible selfless army of volunteers.

Iโ€™m so grateful to them without whom we couldnโ€™t pull off this joyful madness. A true community.

my version of this is i think most people only exhibit sentience some of the time. not a value judgment. they go on autopilot for long stretches of time. how aware are you of your own light of consciousness when you're folding laundry. driving in traffic. putting things in the square hole at work.

If youโ€™ve not yet filled this in, I suggest opening a document and writing a few key phrases like, "there is no ethical use of a program developed on plagiarism and theft" to cut-and-paste because this survey was 100% "same question slightly rephrased, all starting at the position of inevitability."

Explore English Language History

Before AI, we linguists used large scale corpora to study relationships between words and all sorts of other things. Some of them are at risk of going down because of reduced interest, including the most used (COCA), so I bought it. I also added five of old and middle English.

Let Them Eat Large Language Models: Artificial Intelligence and Austerity in the Neoliberal University

Martha Kenney and Martha Lincoln

Abstract
This article examines the expansion of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) into higher education. We argue that genAIโ€™s incursion into university systems represents an effort by Silicon Valley to capture lucrative new markets for their products, as well as enhanced credibility by association. Drawing on our experience as faculty in the California State University (CSU) systemโ€”the first university system to contract with OpenAI to provide ChatGPT Edu system-wideโ€”we assess the rhetoric that justifies and legitimizes genAI contracts in higher education. We suggest that the uncritical adoption of genAI in higher education poses problems for labor conditions, the integrity of intellectual property, and student learning on campuses, particularly under the conditions of austerity that are commonly found in public universities.

Experimental evidence of the effects of large language models versus web search on depth of learning Abstract. The effects of using large language models (LLMs) versus traditional web search on depth of learning are explored. A theory is proposed that when

When people learn with ChatGPT instead of following their own searches, they end up knowing less, caring less, and producing worse advice, even when the facts are the same.

Friction is an essential ingredient for learning! Convenience makes us shallow.
