It seems to have brought the sourness out. Which is fine for me because I like sour.
They're a bit like a cooked gooseberry.
I prefer them fresh because they have a slightly crunchy skin and sweeter, with some sour, flesh.
Texture-wise, fresh is better.
Maybe more suited with cheese than porridge.

The kiwi berries weren't very big so I put them in whole.
After about 10 hours at 60 and another hour or so at 70, they still weren't done, but the apples were.
They've dehydrated but still have too much moisture to store properly.
I'm not putting the dehydrator back on for a handful of berries.

You're Manchester way, yes?
You might find oat flour in a local Polish shop or Unicorn Grocery in Manchester who also had some excellent Rosette apples in a few weeks ago.
You can always make your own from oats if you have a good blender. Mine isn't good enough to get a fine enough flour.

It's wheat free, but if you need gluten free, you might have to get a gluten free version. If it doesn't specifically say gluten free, they can't guarantee it hasnt been contaminated I think.
Wheat and dairy make me unwell so I use oat flour instead. Makes a denser mix, but I like it.

A dish with golden brown cake like mix in it.
I don't know if you do much baking and would be interested, but I made this last week.
Thinly sliced apples on the bottom. The top is a fluffy pancake mix made with oat flour and I added a carrot, nutmeg and sultanas.
Was perfect for breakfast (or any other time).

Thank you. You prompted me to have a go myself and I've now got 4 shelves full of apples. Mainly my mystery Β£5 B&Q apple and a couple of Russets.
I've also added some of my first crop of kiwi berries to see how well they dehydrate.

Interesting idea with the clover.
The Oca will be providing good cover at the minute, but a heavy frost will knock that back.

Are you using the same cover crop mix everywhere or using selected things for specific areas?
I've sown field beans in one of my raised beds because they did well last year and I got a crop out of them.

Did you dip them in anything to keep them from going brown?
Could I also ask what temperature you'll be using please.

Malus sieboldii (Toringo crabapple) & Malus ioensis (Prairie crabapple)
Not sure how unusual they are in the wider scheme of things though.

I was thinking of Jurassic Plants too! π
For more unusual trees.
I've got a black Hawthorn from them and some more unusual Malus.
I also have a little wishlist of things I would get from them if I had the space π
They tend to sell sapling sized trees, but gardeners are often used to waiting.

If cherries are risky because of birds, Cornus mas is a good alternative to sour cherries.
I made a ketchup with mine this year.
Mine survived the birds.
I had some Rosette apples recently. A fabulous apple.
Forgive me if I live vicariously through your fruit tree plans π

Annotated photograph indicating the spot on the stem which turns light green when the tomatoes are ripe.
You'll be better at growing tomatoes than me so reckon you'll get better yields than I have.
But my yield off one plant it pretty good.
The fruits are sweet, but also have a good flavour. Skins aren't tough.
I discovered that the way to tell they're ripe is by the join in this photo.

They're delicious!
I've grown mine outside and they've handled the weather this year pretty well. Just noticed one leaf today that is showing signs of blight, but considering how much its rained the past week, it's not surprising.
But the flavour is my main reason for recommending. Super sweet.

Several small tomatoes on the vine. Each tomato has different shades of green in it. There is a pale green line in the stem above the tomato that indicates it is ripe.

If you're ramping up your tomato growing next year with all of that greenhouse space, I'd recommend Tomato Green Envy.
I'd also recommend not forgetting you've grown green tomatoes.
I couldn't understand why some of them had fallen off the stalks but were still green π€¦ββοΈπ

Such beautiful colours!
I bought some Rosette apples from a cooperative a couple of weeks ago. The colours and the scent were amazing! The flesh was such a beautiful red colour.
I don't have room for any more trees, but it would be on my list if I did.

Is there a market for selling them in the pods?
Probably not much of one, but some people might be happy to buy in pods and shell themselves.

I am. My original team disbanded following the pandemic, but I joined another. It's the only sport that ever stuck for me. I've been skating for about 10 years on and off now.
I'm nowhere near professional level, but I'm part of a really good, welcoming team and that's most important to me.
