This is Senior Lead Officer Harry Cho. For months, he's made it his job to harass unhoused people in Ktown. Moving them from block to block, bringing trucks to take their possessions.
This week, he showed up just before a holiday to tell an unhoused family to leave.
He was recorded saying:

A screenshot of the web UI for the LA 41.18 map. It shows a red banner stating "Permanently closed" over the Academy Children Center, yet the blue circle around it still contributes to the "disallowed" area in the map provided to the volunteer experiencing homelessness.
A screenshot of the web UI for the LA 41.18 map. Overlaid is a screenshot of the website of the Everyday Ibaadah Academy saying "Accredited Global Islamic PK-12 Virtual School". Despite this, the purple circle around it still contributes to the "disallowed" area in the map provided to the volunteer experiencing homelessness.
These zones were created due to their proximity to "sensitive sites" -- like schools and parks. But in the area covered by the map, one of the schools listed is *permanently closed*. Another is an *online academy*.

A screenshot of the web interface for the City of Los Angeles 41.18 map online. It has dated UI and is not easy to use on mobile devices.
Despite growing up here, going to school here, and working here, he and his family are treated like criminals because they are in a 41.18 zone. The only way to know if you're in the wrong zone is through a hard-to-find and hard-to-use online map.

At 21, our member supports two family members with his full-time job -- it just doesn't pay enough to make rent. He still makes time to volunteer with us on Saturdays because he cares about the community he grew up in. He's working with caseworkers to get housing -- but everyone knows it takes time.

An unhoused KFA volunteer was given this map by police today, with notice that he and the family who he works to support need to move out of the area by Monday. The areas in green, blue, and purple are off-limits due to LAMC 41.18, an LA law making it illegal to sit, sleep, or lie in public places.

Newsom's Medi-Cal restrictions WILL lead to more suffering, more homelessness, more death, and more long-term costs- for all of us.
16.06.2025 19:17 β π 70 π 12 π¬ 1 π 0
Tying asset minimums to Medi-Cal coverage is nasty and cruel. $2K in assets isn't even enough to cover a month's rent in California.

This budget plan is unconscionable. Elderly, disabled, and undocumented people are still Californians.
16.06.2025 19:16 β π 105 π 12 π¬ 2 π 0
Governor Newsom,
This isn't who we are.
However bad California's budget deficit may be, stripping healthcare from our disabled citizens, elders, and immigrant community is NOT the answer.
16.06.2025 19:15 β π 122 π 16 π¬ 1 π 1
And it will only give us less.
Less flexibility.
Less freedom.
Less money.
Less time.
Less life.
Less of everything that makes California great.
16.06.2025 19:15 β π 118 π 18 π¬ 1 π 0
Stripping access to healthcare from our people who need it the most - older, disabled, and undocumented Californians - will only cost us more:
More hardship.
More mortality.
More emergency service calls.
More bureaucratic expense.
More strain on families and workers.
16.06.2025 19:15 β π 132 π 22 π¬ 1 π 0
People might say:
"I don't want my taxes funding healthcare for undocumented Californians who don't contribute."
We say:
Undocumented Californians contribute $8.5 billion*** in state taxes every year. Yet they are unjustly excluded from access to many public services-that their taxes made possible.

Saving up to move to a new place?
To go back to school?
To get married?
To buy a new car?
To get orthodontics?
A new companion animal?
A powered wheelchair?
Newsom thinks you don't deserve healthcare.
16.06.2025 19:13 β π 238 π 52 π¬ 1 π 0
If Newsom's new budget plan passes, people 65 and over, or with disabilities, who save up even one month's worth of expenses, will forfeit their Medi-Cal.
16.06.2025 19:11 β π 191 π 41 π¬ 1 π 1
People might say:
"$2,000 in savings is reasonable! Newsom wants to make sure Medi-Cal is reserved for those who truly can't afford private healthcare."
We say:
Nothing is reasonable about this budget plan. Asset minimums are punitive and outdated.
$2,000 in savings won't cover a month's rent. **
16.06.2025 19:11 β π 331 π 72 π¬ 8 π 21
As well as deny ANY future enrollment in Medi-Cal to immigrants without complete legal status.
Over three million Californians will lose access to doctors, medications, and life-saving treatments. *
