Watch: 'It needs to stop' - Police given new powers to clear beggars and rough sleepers Breaching a move-on order may lead to a $2,000 fine or three months in jail.

I knew it would be bad but this is draconian - note it is for anyone 14 years and over and it will be a $2k fine for people with no money so instead they will go to prison. It thus becomes move on to prison. This is not a solution to homelessness. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/governmen...

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

NZ has normalised inequality. As the cost of living rises, Govt has to expand into every corner of life so people don't starve and end up homeless.
We need to reduce inequality and rampant rentierism so that people and communities have the resources they need to look after themselves.

Big grid batteries are pushing dirty, expensive fossil gas out of the power grid, and Australia has joined the party.

"Batteries are picking up daytime solar and dropping it on evening gas like an anvil being dropped on a cartoon character."

As the govt threatens a gas tax, it’s important to reiterate that tax is a GOOD thing. It’s what can make a society work well for the people.

And that it’s also very important that a government spends tax income on things that benefit PEOPLE, not the fossil fuel industry.οΏΌ

They can take this graph, add the one showing excess mortality worldwide 2020-2023, and say "We spent the same, but had the best result on the planet. And National still says human lives are worth less."

But they don't. 🀷

NZ: businesses are closing down because they can’t afford power so we’re building a one billion dollar fossil fuel terminal so we can keep not having free power

2 - Privatize companies
3 - Dividends!
4 - Spend public money on more infra (??)
5 - Dividends!

Gentailers have spent TEN BILLION DOLLARS on dividends over a decade of under investing in capacity

Why the new LNG terminal could raise, not lower, your power bill Analysis: Energy Minister Simon Watts is confident importing gas will lower power prices, but questions remain about the scheme and its costs.

Marc Daalder on why the new LNG terminal is likely to shape up as a bad financial and climate decision.

Examines Watts and Luxons facile talking points and takes them apart.

Should be material for Hipkins but will he use it?
