Natural History nut
Also the BSBI maps show clusters of records around towns and cities so perhaps there is a bit of recording bias going on and it may be more widely distributed and under-recorded.
01.02.2026 13:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks Jo - that's really interesting. Looks like your finds have doubled the number of records for Suffolk! I noticed your records are all coastal or is that just coincidence?
01.02.2026 13:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Ah - thanks Alex. My daughter did say that she thought the Norfolk group were looking into Erigeron and thought that you were concentrating on the flowers especially the phyllaries as the main id feature.
01.02.2026 10:46 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0These are the hairs on the leaf edge under a microscope - I think they are definitely swollen.
01.02.2026 10:39 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You can see how Suffolk doesn't have many records! I find Poland a bit confusing. I definitely thought the leaf was lobed BUT in the key it comes under toothed so I went off course at that point!

Hi. We found this strikingly green glossy rosette outside a pub today and Flora Incognita thinks it is Bilbao Fleabane (which isn't common in the Woodbridge area). Would be interested to hear what some of you guys think - thanks!
Probably!
25.01.2026 22:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi Roger - any idea how frequently this occurs? I must admit I have never noticed it before so must look a bit harder in future!
22.01.2026 06:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is a truly horrifying account of increasingly likely collapse of essential natural systems which would bring mass food shortages, price rises & global disorder. Commissioned from UK intelligence chiefs but scandalously suppressed by Govt, & sneaked out now while attention is elsewhere π

16.01.2026 21:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I like these as artistic "still lifes" as well as catalogues. Looks like the last one is an abstract part of a structure of brick and flint
11.01.2026 22:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well done Roger! - I think I may have found a Spurge Laurel in flower today. Good to meet up with you on Friday.
04.01.2026 21:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I try to stick to family and friend posts on FB plus, of course, the really interesting and useful groups of people that share my interests such as Natural History, etc.
30.12.2025 10:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I keep well away from there - I think Facebook is pretty bad too!
30.12.2025 06:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That would be great - thanks Jo.
21.12.2025 17:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Unfortunately I may have family commitments on the 1st BUT would love to join up with your group when you next visit the Brecks next year - found some really nice species this year around Icklingham but have yet to see the Speedwells.
21.12.2025 10:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Now that's a great idea - will promote to the newly formed Suffolk group!
20.12.2025 23:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not at all. Too much emphasis is put on the economy and growth which, IMHO, seems increasingly to be at odds with the natural world, human society and individual wellbeing.
06.12.2025 07:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes - I remember it well along with the Daily Mail's " At last, a Tory budget!"

22.10.2025 14:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What value do we place on hotspots of peri-urban wildlife? Scrub areas can be rich in #biodiversity. Total bio assemblage needs to be evaluated in ecological reports to inform #GreenInfrastructure planning. The Cringleford case - shorturl.at/3uY7D.

Whole plant. There were over 20 stem leaves present.
Hairy phyllaries - I couldn't detect any glandular hairs - they all looked simple None of the phyllaries were recurved.
Flower head with dark styles (and stigmas)
Stem leaves - there were no distinctly stalked lower leaves - they all seemed to lack petioles and the upper ones did not seem to clasp the stem. So this might be a question mark over the id.
Took some more photos and have added notes. I am fairly certain this is Hieracium sect. sabauda but am happy to be corrected! There are not many records for this in the Ipswich area - the last near the location I found it was 1999 but I would think was due to under recording.
