You need the hours and the quantity, but it's definitely a gross oversimplification. Critical thinking about the problem, reasoning about several possible solutions etc etc is what actually makes someone an expert.

That said, checkpoint repair *is* a good idea to limit the harshness of an item breaking. But the overall experience depends so much on why durability is there in the first place.

Not so great with just the anxiety of "will my weapons hold to the end? but I was having so much fun!"

Choices of weapons can still be there by just limiting slots. Durability might just end up as "ah crap, guess I'll stop playing for today."

Im generally not a fan of equipment durability. I use it sometimes in ttrpgs, but then it's tied strongly to the story, or destroying an item that became too powerful.
A weapon breaking after a string of critical failures in an intense fight can be great when you have friends to step in and save you

I tried Linux Mint earlier this year, and i honestly loved it. Not nearly as complicated as I feared. And what little complexity there is (using the console lol), is offset by actually owning your system.
