The last person to forcibly expel a large section of their settled population was literally a madman. Apart from being self destructive and morally repugnant, imagine the damage it would do to the UK if scenes like this were broadcast around the world.

It should have taken about 5 minutes. Are they aware now that the internet exits and they need to get their responses out a little sooner than the tomorrow’s newspaper print deadline? (They’d have missed that too in any case).

Their poor vetting system is only one half of the reason for these constant embarrassments. The other half is that their party is particularly attractive to virulent racists. Perhaps they should look at why that might be.

‘Grave danger’? They speak as if the policies of the last fifty years weren’t leading to the rise of fascism, global instability and the destruction of the planet.

Also, we’re not at war with the French, they’re our neighbours. We barely have a navy any more and we’re generally seen as a weak and declining nation. So no, I don’t think it’s a particularly good reason to ‘raise the flag’.

How is that red states can gerrymander their maps at seemingly a couple of weeks notice, while in blue states it’s always a long, complex procedure with no guarantee of success?
