Today is a good day to make a donation to a food bank.

I do realize the incredible privilege of being able to previously design and shop for fun stickers funded by selling books in my driveway during rummage sale season.

But we could have had a better world for everyone. And it sucks that we are here instead.

All I want to do is design and shop for fun stickers but INSTEAD I am sending money to the food pantry and wondering if I can even AFFORD to indulge in stickers bc who KNOWS what tomorrow will bring.

And I hate it, fam. I hate it.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

Consider sending your Facebook Class action payout to your local foodbank: they can leverage that money for food better than we can!

It’s important to remember that community care doesn’t have to come in the form of $100s in donations or dropping off pallets of food.

Sometimes it’s picking up an extra rotisserie chicken for a neighbor, or doing a grocery pick up for an elder, or helping someone with laundry or childcare.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Feeding America has a page where you can input your zip code and it'll show you all of the food banks near you overlaid on a map. If you need it, it's there. If you don't need it, think about donating money if you have it and your time if you don't.

This is what is really weighing on me right now bc ND decided our billions of dollars in legacy fund money should not go to free school lunches for kids bc "it is the responsibility of the parents" 🙃
