The economic benefit of employment from transit is massively outweighed by the economic benefit of the transit existing in the first place. Promoting transit as a jobs creation program rather than a means for economic efficiency will always limit how politicians view transit.

The first time I drove out West I got pretty sad because I realised that I had already seen a majority of our cities and towns, they just all happened to have different names and be in different places. Otherwise they look just like this.

Move the United Nations to Montreal
If Montreal ever wanted to make a serious pitch to become the new home of the United Nations, now is the time.
Trump has made it clear the UN should no longer be in the US
This is #Montreal's opportunity to come up with a plan and a pitch
We're well-suited to host the UN. It's time for Montreal to think big.

The Orange line is also in desperate need of relief and the REM will take off a decent amount of that pressure.
There's lots to criticise the REM for, but I'm afraid you've missed most of it.

Transportation planning is not just about the demand that exists today but what demand can be generated through things like TOD, which the REM does okay at. You've also forgotten the service it provides to the city proper which will be transformational and much more than the exo could have provided.

Things Canada should be focusing on even if there wasn't the huge threat of tariffs on our economy:
a)Not being a petro-state
b)Inter-provincial trade barriers
Now is a better time than never...

One long-term thing Canada can do to reaffirm its sovereignty in the face of our bully neighbor and to start decoupling from the US in terms of trade is to stop adapting US technical standards and start using international or EU one (which is often the same thing).

The disparity in transit funding between the GTHA and the rest of Ontario is enormous.
Not to mention that when the provincial government endlessly expands highways, local governments are stuck with the ever increasing bills for the fire and ambulance services that respond to the crashes.

Part of the reason why the housing crisis is so exacerbated in Canada compared to other countries is that we have a travesty of an intercity transportation network.
Reliable, fast, and affordable links to other places makes smaller towns and cities desirable!

The federal NDP doesn't just need a new leader, they need a new leadership team and strategic pivot in general. They made the right decision to do a C&S agreement, but you have to own those choices. This is buck passing. The country is waiting for a real social democratic party option.
