The final product! The skull was imposed onto the main head drawing with a clipping mask attached to the text. The remaining text was filled white and set on the "exclusion" layer type, then clipping masked onto the head. I don't know what the text/font craziness is called, don't come at me lol.

(same entry) the skull is overlayed on top of the main image, with the skull being shaded through grey scale and getting a gradient map applied. I colour picked shades for the gradient map directly from images of preserved skeletons of small critters (I cannot find the name of the technique, but I've seen it with small rodents, reptiles and birds- the skeletons look purple-ish blue and cyan at times)

An entry for a discord icon contest for a closed species of feathery dragons- the full image of the main face with no funky filters.

The colours are in the themes of blue, cream, white and gold. Character is literally called jester, uses any pronouns.
