Next is Oyesola Ojewunmi discussing foetal haemoglobin (HbF) persistence in sickle cell disease (SCD).

SCD is a disease of haemoglobin, with HbA replaced by HbS, causing sickling of the haemoglobin, deforming the blood cell and causing occlusions in vessels and downstream stroke and other sequelae

Up next is Prof Andres Moreno-Estrada joining live from Mexico to continue the discussion on the global state of omics with a focus on Latin America

Prof Bratati Kahali, joining live from India, is up next giving the state of omics in South Asia using the #GenomeIndia project as a case study

The second talk in this session is by Prof Koichi Matsuda live from Japan who is giving a talk on the state of omics in East Asia with Biobank Japan (BBJ) as a case study

The 3rd and last session of the day; “The State of Omics Around the World” kicks off with a recording of a talk by Dr Ananyo Choudhury on Multi-omics in Africa giving evidence of initiatives from the AWI-GEN study

The final talk in this session is by Dr Daniela Robles-Espinoza, joining us live from Mexico. She will highlight the underrepresentation of Latin American samples in genomic studies, explore the roots of the problem, and discuss actionable solutions.

Dr Ben Johnson takes the stage to give a journal (Nature Health) Editor’s perspective on the importance of genomic diversity

The next talk in this session is brought by Prof Patricia Monroe on how Genomic Diversity matters to the Big Global consortia, with evidence from cardiovascular disease research

First talk in session 2 is by Prof Andrew Morris talking on how method development can enhance Genomic diversity and discovery for all populations

Back from lunch and straight into session 2 titled “Driving Genomic Equity Through Methods, Research, Publishing and Global Partnerships”

In the last talk of this session, Prof Manuel Corpus presents a talk titled “Clinical Genome Interpretation of Inca Empire Descendants (Amazon/Andes)”

Next up is Prof. Alex Brown, joining us live from #Australia to speak on the Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics. His talk offers a powerful glimpse into what equity in genomics looks like through work with Aboriginal communities

Prof @sarahfiner.bsky.social gives the second talk of this session. In her talk she walks us through the successful community-based #GenesAndHealth genomics study which focuses on British Bangladeshis and British Pakistanis

Prof Raghib Ali of #OutFutureHealth kicks off session 1 titled “The Persistent Underrepresention of Non-European Populations: Causes and Context” giving an overview of what is becoming the largest diverse cohort in Europe

Next up is Prof Paul Franks of @lunduniversity.bsky.social giving a talk on how bridging the diversity gap in genomics can improve precision medicine and health equity on a global scale

The symposium kicks off with a keynote by Prof Karoline Kuchenbecker of @ucl.ac.uk, exploring the state of global genomic representation and why it matters for our health
