only been working as a hospital occupational therapist for 3 days and i can't help but think that having 5 years since i last handled a client is catching up on me. i honestly feel slow, a bit lost, embarrassed even

i have to learn how to be gentle to myself. i believe this is how growth feels like

surely a vision board will fix climate change and get rid of the nazis. 2025 will be my year as long as i check off all of these self improvement goals. this will solve all the things.

Class consciousness requires a move away from the deficit model that blames all ills in society on inherent individual flaws.

The rationalist elite is the problem. They say the masses are irrational beasts who must be confined and controlled. You don't have to agree with them.

Is doom scrolling really rotting our brains? The evidence is getting harder to ignore | SiΓ’n Boyle β€˜Brain rot’ is the Oxford word of the year – a fitting choice, given the startling impact the internet is having on our grey matter, says journalist SiΓ’n Boyle

Is doom scrolling really rotting our brains? The evidence is getting harder to ignore

www.theguardian.com/...

Many have asked for my take on this. So, is it another example of "I have concluded that my gut feelings are correct and I'm cherry picking 'evidence' to support it"?

Yes, yes it is

#FunFact Autistic people live in Takiwatanga time, which among many other things means, that we often find age categorizations of mainstream culture odd and nonsensical. Autistic adults may find joy many things considered "childish" including (but not limited to) plushies, legos, stickers. 1/

If human beings can't live up to a model that claims to explain human behaviour then the target of improvement should be the model. It's clearly not accurate.

Predictability isn’t what matters, control isn’t what matters either. AUTONOMY is what matters. So to optimise environments you don’t need to focus on predictability per se but rather the person’s own ability to plan, adjust, determine what’s happening and when; just as you do when moving about.5/10

My review notes had the following text: Women prefer considerateness, honesty, dependability, kindness, understanding, and earning prospects. Men, on the other hand, prefer good looks, cooking skills, and frugality. According to our lecturer, these refer to "physical attraction", which I wrote on the margin. I also wrote in uppercase: SEXIST!, with my drawing of a Squinting Face with Tongue emoji.

an uncomfortable part of studying human development is the unhelpful perpetration of outdated, rigid gender stereotypes

Ableism teaches us to abandon each other.

Racism will disable you.
Transphobia will disable you.
Long COVID will disable you.
Genocide will disable you.
Climate change will disable you.

Do not obey when told to abandon the vulnerable.

Resistance & communities must be rooted in disability justice.

a bit irked calling myself a "professional" b/c i have my own marxist/neuronormative qualms about it - even if i'm working towards it. perhaps a better word is "practitioner". ofc there are many ways to earn public trust, but i also recognize that a license is a legal shorthand, albeit a bottleneck

Remember: fascism thrives on apathy.

The autocrats want you to tune out. They want to overwhelm you. They want you to give up.

Don’t give them want they want.

Stay in this fight. Remain vigilant. And let’s keep building.

Hopepunk is the opposite of grimdark. Finding hope in the darkness is a radical, rebellious, beautiful, terrifying act--and is necessary to fight on.
