Really great here from @tspampatti.bsky.social. I have a plan for a set of projects designed to start empirically exploring these directions that Iβm really excited about. Happy to discuss/collaborate on those plans!

If this is helpful for anyone going on the social psych tenure track job market in US, here are my Colby (in 2018) and UIC (2023) statements: osf.io/ef7s3/files/...
My lab website has links to other people's materials. Of course the markets were very different back then.

If anyone is curious about the current list of search terms being used by right wing activist organizations to harass university professors, here's a public records request I received today from Mike Howell of the Heritage Foundation. Not intimidating or meant to curtail by my speech at all, right?

It feels like every new psych job is either computational or ai-based research. Doesnβt bode well for people who do other great research that doesnβt fall into these niche categories.

Boards of Trustees ***LIKE*** the Trump demands. They ***AGREE*** with them.
They like the idea of putting the screws on activist, lefty, and Muslim students. They like the idea of a whiter student body and conservative curriculum. They want these things and think $200 million is a fair price.

Being Too Helpful At Work Can Hurt Your CareerβHereβs How To Say No
Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at workβextra tasks like onboarding or event planningβand it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.
In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

We are currently watching the best researchers science has to offer systematically be stripped of their ability to share critical knowledge - Franki is firmly in that category. This is horrifying to watch unravel. All the best to Franki and everyone affected.

I just found out today that another post doc I was a finalist for had to be removed due to funding cuts. I cannot understate just how hard it is to be searching for academic positions under this administration.
My heart goes out to all folks who have had their funding cut. May your research thrive.

Under Pressure, Psychology Accreditation Board Suspends Diversity Standards
As the Trump administration threatens to strip accrediting bodies of their power, many are scrambling to purge diversity requirements.
Extremely disappointing & cowardly. The American Psychological Association is rescinding diversity requirements. Not due to any actual mandate from the federal government, but only because it may *someday* face pressure from the government www.nytimes.com/2025/03/27/h...

It is very difficult being post-doc seeker with the funding freezes. The emotional toll of the market is notably exacerbated by whatβs happening.
I also recognize how difficult this time is for those with funding already, who are either losing (or under threat of losing) their jobs. Itβs no fun.
