We have no permanent president, CEO, or dean as of today. We’re either on the cusp of utopia or about to slide into a hell of blood and fire. Will report back.

The Trump Rescissions Package What is at Stake Before July 18

Tell your senators to vote NO on Trump’s rescission package and protect foreign aid, NPR, PBS, world hunger, HIV/AIDS prevention, and more. These funds have already been allocated and Trump and the GOP want to slash them which will hurt millions of Americans & will dismantle our government further.

This is extremely bad: β€œexpect placement by political appointees.”

This is Lysenkoism, politics controlling science, and we know how it ends: with the death of science.

β€œFor successful science, reality must take precedence over politics, for Nature cannot be fooled.”

Thank you, I hadn't appreciated this distinction. I just looked at the One Big Bill from the House; no mention of NIH or NSF. So, science funding will be voted on later this summer. That's great and gives us just a little more time to advocate and get the word out to the public and congress. πŸ“’

The Prospect article in the first post notes that NIH cuts are "a sleeper issue" in the bill.

Future cures for cancer, Alzheimer's, chronic diseases, and the next pandemic should not be a "sleeper issue". Workforce for pharma and biotech should not be a sleeper issue.

Time to wake people up!

Here's what's in the GOP megabill headed for a vote in the Senate Senate Republicans released the full text of their massive tax and spending bill that contains many of President Trump's top campaign promises. Here's a look at what's in and what's out.

So far even NPR isn't highlighting the major cuts to research funding at NIH and NSF. It was completely left out of this otherwise highly informative rundown of what is in the bill. @elenamoore.bsky.social maybe you could add it? These cuts will have tremendous impact. www.npr.org/2025/06/28/g...

Will the Senate Save NIH? Rescuing biomedical research is every bit as important as saving Medicaid.

It seems that only the science community is noticing that NIH and NSF budgets are cut 40% and 55% in the budget bill, respectively. If you live in Maine, West Va, Pennsylvania, Alabama, or Louisiana, CALL YOUR SENATOR as they could make a difference. See below.

NSF budget proposal slashes funding across the agency The proposed 57% cut will drive down the agency’s funding rate and eliminate training programs

The Trump admin wants to cut the NSF's budget by 57%.

In terms of directorates, EDU and ENG would see the biggest cuts at 75%, while MPS is looking at a ~67% cut. The proposal also defunds nearly all postdoc programs and slashes the NSF GRFP budget by 55%.

Coronavirus can destroy the placenta and lead to stillbirths New research suggests the coronavirus can invade and destroy the placenta and lead to stillbirths in infected women.

β€œA CDC report found that among pregnant U.S. women infected with COVID-19, about 1 in 80 deliveries was a stillbirth β€” the loss of a fetus anytime after 20 weeks. That’s compared with 1 in 155 among uninfected women”

Pregnant women need access to Covid boosters.

If in industry, the REU you did or NSFGRFP you got helped shape the scientist you are. Write about it!
