Really loved this essay, especially the bit about top surgery. I genuinely gained 20+ years to my life expectancy getting that procedure. The day I got top surgery is up there with as significant as my wedding day was. I’d go get it again ten times, every year even, if I needed to.

Not just that, but not having a migration plan in place as server owners.

Genuinely this was vulnerable to write, but people need to know the lengths we had to go to in order to make it to adulthood growing up conservative & trans then.

At my Baptist h.s. in the 00’s, before I knew what ‘trans’ meant, I would bind my chest & hips with duct tape. I damaged my skin & could have hurt myself as a teen with little internet access.

I did what I had to survive a puberty I didn’t want. Let kids have a better childhood than I did, please.
