Something very delightfully Oxford about someone taking the time to hand-paint a temporary Queens Lane sign when scaffolding covers the original

Do you know why there's pretty much always 2x 5s at the station? Always struck me as a bit inefficient

Entering the sewer to remove the fatberg

Entering the sewer to remove the fatberg

Fat, grease and debris being cleared

Fat, grease and debris being cleared

A fatberg the size of a blue whale has been removed from Oxford’s sewers. It took two weeks to remove the 120-tonne lump of congealed fat, oil, grease and wipes, while maintaining Oxford’s wastewater flow and guarding against high gas levels elevated by the fatberg.

Is being discussed but there's genuinely not that much room (and it's quite expensive stuff).

These are not in any way easily mode-switchable trips though (unlike any of the other stuff inside this central zone where a charge in unavoidable).

Would be great if the county was up for funding the inevitable shortfall / alternatives but I'm not super optimistic about that

Obituary: Formidable campaigner Barbara Gatehouse was a β€˜living legend’ in city politics FORMER Leys councillor Barbara Gatehouse, who has died aged 89, was a Labour stalwart and β€œliving legend” with a fierce dedication to her family.

It's also been a delight to learn about Barbara Gatehouse who was key to getting the rink built in the first place.

Labour women getting stuff done, I hope to live up to her legacy.

On the radio this morning talking about the impact of congestion charge on the ice rink

πŸ’ lots of kit
⏲️ weird times of day
πŸ—ΊοΈ travelling huge distances
πŸ“… multiple times a week
πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦ lots of juniors

Could be absolutely disastrous for clubs & rink without an exemption

Other cities may have better vistas and landmarks, or more impressive colonnades and sprawling public spaces, but few cities do better *glimpses* than Oxford.
Nobody can touch us when it comes to half-seen things that stick in the memory.

YES, this is exactly it

There is no Notre Dame but there are thousands of tiny vignettes.

"A Cambridge Diary" photo series captured this perfectly in the other place

This is one of my favourite views in Oxford

As you pass under the Bridge of Sighs, the gothic spire of Essex College chapel flashes into view for a moment before being lost behind the Sheldonian again. Sublime.

An Oxford landlord will have to pay over Β£11,000 after poor conditions were uncovered in one of his rental properties. Faults included an inadequate fire alarm, lacking ventilation, missing stair guards, and badly maintained fire doors. www.oxford.gov.uk/news/article...
