I think Jesus really gets that in this moment, looking us in the eyes and saying: “you my child face a lot of hate. You receive a lot of anger and all you do is exist. I am so sorry. You are blessed because I love you. Someday you too will see”

Being persecuted.

I’ll give some context I can really think of personally: having someone say “God hates f*gs like you.” “You blaspheme the name of God, you aren’t a Christian”

Or even some uglier things that are being thrown around towards my trans siblings. Legislation used to harm them

As an apology.

Jesus is apologizing in a strange way… Not so much a “Sorry this sucks, tough it out” apology.

But a genuine apology because he understood what it was like to be persecuted in the name of faith and empire.

When I read it now I think of Jesus saying he’s sorry to those who are

Last night I read the beatitudes to a bereaved family (they asked specifically for that). And I am always struck by the verse that goes “Blessed are you when people revile and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account”

I stop because I cant help but to read it as
