Meet Marco, who tells us how, one public toilet at a time he and the Edinburgh Thriving Green Spaces team are breaking down barriers to spending time outdoors.

His story shows how small changes can make green spaces welcoming for all.

Utrecht’s municipal planβ€”developed over several years with input from stakeholders, business owners, disability and cycling advocatesβ€”set out a broad set of goals: elevate spatial quality, enhance safety, slow traffic to 30 km/h, add greenery, support climate resilience and boost commercial success.

One of the most surprising things I've learned from my research is that "how hot it's gotten so far" doesn't tell us much about "how hot it's going to get eventually". Long-ago, really weird climates can tell us a lot more about where we're headed.

I wonder if the New York Times will go after any of the prominent academics in the Epstein files for being rapists as hard as they went after Claudine Gay for being kind of sloppy with citations in her graduate thesis.

If not, why not?

Whatever works is good!
Not "advice" but when I stopped smoking way back in 2004 I was hitting 30-40 a day (more on a night out) & I spent 4 months sucking on wee hard candy lollipops instead so I had something to do with my hands/mouth. (I stayed stopped & haven't even missed it since early 2005)

I also don't understand how this is fundamentally any different from saying "people who dont have kids shouldn't have to pay taxes for schools"!

(never mind how useful a category "people who don't go to university" is given it's not a fixed characteristic...)

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the StrΓΈget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianisation pilot project in 1962

What could we do to fix ours?

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
