Some years ago, in a rough patch for some of my students, I wrote a poem. In it, I told them what I wished I had said on the day they arrived for their first class.
When the time comes, I will be proud to call you a colleague.

04.08.2025 22:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Such a well-written and necessary statement -- do you happen to know where I can locate it? I can't find it through a web search, and I'd like to be able to reference it in other exam-related discussions.
04.08.2025 19:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Got a licensing exam coming up? You may want to schedule it for a Monday: highpass.com/blogs/news/s... #examprep #testprep
04.08.2025 19:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, I totally came in hot there. Apologies. The discussion thread that @sheologian.bsky.socialβ¬ kindly carried forward is more measured.
04.08.2025 18:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But to say that there's no such thing as a BAA covering AI is just factually wrong. Questions about BAAs should be directed both to the BAA providers (the piece I think was missing here) and to professional liability insurers. If they understand things differently, it's worth examining why.
04.08.2025 17:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I myself don't use AI note-taking, because on balance I don't think the risk is worth it. I understand insurers wanting to discourage clinicians from using AI clinically, because so much is unknown, untested, and/or potentially unsafe.
04.08.2025 17:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Look, I came in hot, and I'll own that. I *do* think Amy was wrong, but I could've addressed it far more thoughtfully.
I don't presume that info from an EHR and info from an insurer are the same. They serve somewhat different purposes.
The relevant direct quote and link are above in this thread. Both companies do tend to suffer from link bloat, so trying to find the info through navigation as opposed to search can be a challenge. For both, search got me to the key info quickly.
04.08.2025 17:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0? I checked with the specific companies instead of relying on third party analysis. Previously posted SP's statement, here's TN's: support.therapynotes.com/hc/en-us/art...). (In fairness, though, I would have expected better/more accurate info from the insurer.)
04.08.2025 17:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, I wonder to what degree they've kept up with it. (It is fast-moving to be sure.) Or whether they're just taking a super-conservative approach in the absence of test cases on the subject. I have no doubt there eventually will be test cases.
04.08.2025 17:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0lol apologies, rereading that, it's totally coming in hot. Not my intent. It's just that it's not true, and both the companies you mentioned plainly say so.
04.08.2025 17:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd be changing insurers if they think that. Both TherapyNotes and SimplePractice explicitly and unequivocally state that their AI note-taking is covered under their existing BAA.
04.08.2025 17:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hear that. But the insurer seems, at best, misinformed. And to repeat and amplify that inaccuracy, calling out specific companies apparently without looking into it at all first, seems problematic. No?
04.08.2025 17:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I get that many people are skeptical of both technology companies (especially those with VC funding) and AI, and I generally think that skepticism is appropriate. But it's not a reason to just make shit up.
04.08.2025 16:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0SP explicitly says that their AI note-taker is covered by their BAA. "When you use SimplePractice's AI Note Taker, you're already covered under SimplePracticeβs existing Business Associate Agreement." And they have a lot more detail in support. www.simplepractice.com/blog/hipaa-c...
04.08.2025 16:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0No. "HIPAA BAAs don't cover AI as of yet" is incorrect and nonsensical. For a TherapyNotes or a SimplePractice to provide a BAA (which they both do) and somehow include language that their AI note-taking isn't covered wouldn't just be bad judgment, it would be commercially suicidal.
