I agree they are different. I think institutional racism and sexism are the root of current events. I also think that they’re heavily embedded into both reality tv and 24/7 news way back to OJ (straight line to Kardashians), the Menendez bros, Court TV, Cops. Why IMO the latter are lighter fluid.

Audiences are free to choose what is entertaining. That said, I can’t get past the fact that reality tv was born out of a writers’ strike and the networks saw how cheap it was to make. I highly recommend Jenn Posner’s Reality Bites Back. I also know Reality TV +24/7 news broke society.

My doomer-worry about AI is not that the LLMs become omnipotent and take over the world but that the wealthy and powerful use it as a means to consolidate power and marginalize or lay off skilled workers and also everything about our technological and political and social life gets worse
