My advice to undergraduates:

Do *not* sign on to a PhD just because it's a 'next step' and you don't know what else to do. A master's program is a much better option in that scenario. You can find out if you genuinely enjoy the endeavor and, if not, it's only 2 years and you get a great degree! 1/2

Net Zero migration is an economic own goal By Frank McKenna

@downtownfrank.bsky.social: "The political obsession with net zero migration is becoming detached from economic reality. The UK is an ageing society with persistent labour shortages.

"Our economy depends on access to global talent.”

Those Europeans who spent yesterday obsessing over Trump destroying the US would do far better to think about how the few guardrails that will stop him do not exist in most of our countries. Germany might be the only exception to this?

Petition: Apply to Rejoin the EU as soon as possible to increase growth in the UK We believe Brexit's not working. The OBR judges that the UK economy is smaller and trade is weaker because of Brexit, and it will just get worse. 10 years after the Brexit vote, let's apply to rejoin ...

Do we want to align with Trump's America? I don't.

Let's make sure the government knows this.

As a geologist you had to work pretty hard to not be employed during the 50s/60s/70s.

A bit challenging in the 1980s…but doable. 1990s through 2024 …get your environment hat on and get a job.

I would hate to have a freshly minted BS in today’s market.

Do you double/triple down and go for MS/PhD?

Read the full transcript of Carney’s speech to World Economic Forum - National | Globalnews.ca Prime Minister Mark Carney gave a forceful speech in Davos, Switzerland, on the 'new world order' and how middle powers like Canada can benefit by working together.

With his #Davos speech @mark-carney.bsky.social has become not less than the leader of the free world, in the philosophy of VΓ‘clav Havel.

European leaders should now build a strong alliance with him and ramp up common decisions on security, trade and the values of multilateralism.

Merz, aufwachen!
