👉 Trump campaigned in 2024 on tariffs even bigger than his first term.
👉 A huge majority of farmers voted for Trump.
👉 Trump instituted massive tariffs knowing how this would affect farmers (hint: bankruptcies, losing farms in the family for generations).

"Love"? More like an abusive relationship.

It feels like conservative tribalism overrides the first-term shellacking they took, including farm bankruptcies and farmer suicides 😭

So many families will not be able to make it within increases like that. They can’t cut their way out of that hole.

It feels like he’s never gone without: He can’t fathom how an increase like that can break a family.

The phrase “out of touch” doesn’t seem strong enough.

These conservatives are so incredibly disconnected from the lives of most Americans. 75% of "a really low number" is still a massive increase. The fact that he doesn't seem to understand the impact of a 75% increase relative to the base rate is troubling. Or he does but doesn't care? 🧐

Trump economy guy: We're increasing healthcare premiums on very low-income people to pay for tax cuts for the very rich... "the question is how much smaller should [the rate subsidies for the very poor] be."

An entirely predictable situation... only thing different than Trump 45 is that he and Republicans haven't bailed farmers out (yet... and might not, because the Freedom Caucus won't want to balloon the deficit for them).
